Continue ReadingThese players do all of the work and never get the glory! Middles are trained to work hard blocking pin to pin and to transition fast with barely getting set if there’s not a good pass. Therefore, middle is hard, strenuous and only certain, talented players are built for the job. Here are a list of middles that I think are great in their position.
Mariah Perry- Champion 15 Zonal-Haley
This kid caught my eye when I glanced over to a springing athlete who raised up and just bounced a ball. You can tell that this middle, Mariah Perry, is new to the game, but I promise you she has true, untapped potential. She was even playing all the way around as a middle which is just unheard of! Perry is one of those kids that gives 110%, so you never want to take that energy out of the game. Her natural, physical ability already at 15 years old will take her far in the sport of volleyball. Keep watching this one as she’ll only grow into a solid volleyball player.
Jessica Smallwood- EVA 15 Blue
I’ve been excited to write about this girl from Elizabethtown, KY! Jessica Smallwood, at only 13 years old, stands at 6’4!! Yes, you read that correctly… However, her height is not the only aspect to acknowledge. Smallwood plays with the love of volleyball, and that’s what is beautiful to watch. Jessica is still learning, as she’s 13 playing in the 15s division, but she gives it her all when she’s in there. You can watch her work hard to block the outside and then transition to hit a one ball. Her timing is actually very good for how young she is, and then her ability to swing either to left back or right back is also amazing. You can tell she is quickly getting better and will only become more talented throughout the years. 13 years old, but boy, her future is oh so bright!
Keira Hans Keira Hans MB Simon Kenton | 2025 State KY – NKJV 15 Blue
Her team won it all this past weekend, and a large part of their success is due to this stud middle, Keira Hans Keira Hans MB Simon Kenton | 2025 State KY . I was fascinated with how versatile and dynamic Keira was. She was running sixes and slides and then tracking her hitter so well. A middle’s job is hard, like I said earlier, but the way she glides and moves around almost makes it look easy. Something special about Keira is she’s not your one set, one shot gal, meaning she can hit from anywhere and find the court to get a kill. She’s always an option to set which is a special attribute to have as a middle hitter. I can’t wait to see the big things this kid does in the future!
