Continue ReadingThe first weekend of February brought one of the most anticipated club volleyball tournaments annually held in the state of Texas, the Adidas Lone Star Classic.
This year’s location for the 18s tournament, which served as a qualifier for the 2022 USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship, was the Austin Convention Center and it attracted as many as 178 teams, including several from other states, across its four divisions.
The teams from the Lone Star State were among the top performers in the tournament, finishing first in all four divisions, and over the next days, we’ll honor their campaigns, featuring the top two finishers of each division in specific articles.

Madfrog 18’s N Green
The always strong team from the Madfrog club in the Dallas area had a remarkable run in the tournament, winning nine straight matches to make it to the golden bracket final. Their only defeat in the event came in a nail-biting tie-breaker against eventual champions Skyline 18 Royal.

Madfrog has been fortunate to have one of the top outside hitters in the entire state in the last few years in Maya Duckworth Maya Duckworth 5'9" | OH Birdville | 2022 State #49 Nation TX . The 5’9” prospect stands out for her leaping ability, athleticism, great technique and productivity. Despite her size, Duckworth is capable of scoring in any situation and on most occasions she’ll do it by hammering the ball down on the opponent’s court. She ended her high school career with 2,038 kills, 103 aces, 236 blocks, 1,797 digs and 1,566 passes registered for Birdville. Ranked second in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, she’ll play for Iowa State at the collegiate level.
Ifenna Cos-Okpalla Ifenna Cos-Okpalla 6'2" | MB Marcus | 2022 State #123 Nation TX – Middle Blocker – HS: Marcus – 2022
Ifenna Cos-Okpalla Ifenna Cos-Okpalla 6'2" | MB Marcus | 2022 State #123 Nation TX is another player of Madfrog 18’s N Green placed in the top ten of our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, in eighth place. An athletic and imponent 6’2” middle blocker, she completely dominates the net with a very complete and dynamic game, which combines a lot of physicality and speed of movement. Her timing on offense is perfect and she’s nearly unstoppable when in-system. Cos-Okpalla was in beast mode during the last high school season, producing 244 kills, 125 blocks and 46 digs for Marcus. She’ll continue her career at the collegiate level with Texas A&M.

In terms of skillset for a prospect to play on the right, it doesn’t get better than what Mia Moore Mia Moore 6'0" | RS Heritage | 2022 State #194 Nation TX has to offer. A lefty, she has the size, the power and the technique to thrive in the position, as she has been doing for some years here in Texas. A six-footer, Moore is extremely athletic and explosive when set on the right and her arsenal of shots and hits seems to be endless. Ranked 12th in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, she has been a stud for her high school team Heritage, tallying 1,425 kills, 134 aces, 168 blocks, 829 digs and 1,662 passes over her career, and it will most likely be the same when she joins Clemson in the summer.
