Heather Mar- Mam Metro 16 Elite Gold
An outside hitter out of DC, Heather Mar was a force to watch in the front row. She has a gift to swing as hard as she can whenever possible. The score was 22-22, and Mar took this great approach and killed the ball to the cross court to get a kill. She’s a go getter and plays all the way around for the squad. She can find the seams in the block and attack them from the outside. Mar also knows when to keep the ball in play when the team sets her out of system. She’s a fierce competitor and a flat out baller.
Allee Shoaf- Lanier 16 Mary Beth
A starting right side, Allee Shoaf showed off her skills down in Music City. What drew me to her court was her natural approach and hand placement. She constantly gets her feet there, wherever the set, and finds a way to hit the ball with power. Shoaf can make any set look like a good one. Plus, she’s exceptional at hitting line for a right-handed right side and fantastic at setting the block for her middles. This may be because of her sheer athleticism and fast feer, but Shoaf is also determined to do her job while she’s in there.
Riley Wall- Ignite 16 Adidas National
Helping her team to a third place finish, this stud libero made you forget like she was even there sometimes. This means she did her job. 90% of the time, the pass was always in the perfect position for the setter to run her offense, and it was all because of Riley Wall. Her dig with control was extraordinary. You want a libero that performs the easy plays perfectly, but you also want a player to fly around back there picking up the trash. Wall did exactly that and made it all look natural and smooth in the process.
Allie Griffin- Ignite 16 Adidas National
Another player from Scottsdale, Arizona, Allie Griffin was a fun setter to watch in Nashville. She is a great jump setter that easily pulled the blockers. When she was in the back row, Griffin was good at moving her body out of the net and setting sideways if the ball got too tight which is most definitely not an easy concept to do. Most of all, her hands were so pure. She continues the beauty of setting, and that was probably my favorite aspect to Griffin. At 24-23, I watched Griffin go to her knees and set a dime, so she could get the ball to their big hitter in the middle. Griffin is a stud!
