Continue ReadingJunior year is a huge year for high school athletes. The recruiting process for some comes to a close. And for some is just starting. Either way, the talent in this class is incredible. Athletes will continue to get recruited through this year and next. We currently have 239 athletes ranked and another 30+ on the watchlist. This is by far one of our most extensive lists yet. With so many amazing athletes, how do we sift through them all? Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how we did it!
What’s the story of this class?
Some of the top-ranked athletes committed before the NCAA rules changed including Saige Damrow Saige Damrow 5'8" | DS/L Howards Grove | 2023 State #17 Nation WI , committed to Wisconsin. Others, including Kennedy Martin Kennedy Martin 6'6" | OH Nation Ford | 2023 #23 Nation NC (Committed to Florida), Zoe Behrendt Zoe Behrendt 5'11" | S Whitefish Bay | 2023 State #113 Nation WI (Committed to North Carolina), Lily Wagner Lily Wagner 5'11" | OH Germantown | 2023 State #118 Nation WI (Committed to Liberty), Kyla Dunaway Kyla Dunaway 6'4" | RS Kimberly | 2023 State WI (Committed to Alabama), and Paige Miller Paige Miller 5'10" | DS/L Kaukauna | 2023 State WI (Committed to Ohio State), have committed recently.
And while some athletes have already committed, others are likely at the beginning or middle of their recruiting journey. This class, and for several classes to come, was highly impacted by COVID-19. So many athletes are still looking for their home playing volleyball at the next level. And there are plenty of coaches at the collegiate level still looking for athletes from this class.
How do we evaluate and rank athletes?
We look at a plethora of things when we are looking to evaluate and rank athletes. There is a lot to consider including where they are playing for high school and club. What tournaments are they playing in? And what divisions? How well are they performing at the highest levels? We try to look at all aspects of their game in various different settings.
With the class of 2023, we have had several club and high school seasons to evaluate athletes. As I mentioned above, the talent in this class is nearly limitless. The rankings and watchlist for this class only continue to grow.
How does position play a role in the rankings?
There is value to every position. Whether they earn points on offense or prevent other teams from earning those same points. Across the different classes, we have nearly every position ranked as #1. And every position in the top 10. These athletes show their dedication and talent in a myriad of ways. And while some comes down to position, ultimately the rank is based on the athlete themselves.
Did my athlete’s rankings drop?
Since the last rankings, there has been quite a bit of movement as well as over 30 athletes. If other athletes have raised in rank, it is only natural that the rank of other athletes may drop. We don’t typically drop an athlete’s rank. Most athletes improve and impress across numerous tournaments and matches. Additionally, we don’t just look at one match or tournament either but try to watch athletes several times.
How are rankings used?
The number of colleges who subscribe to our sites increases constantly. We currently have over 200 college coaches subscribed to our site. These coaches do use our information as a resource, for where athletes are playing and if they have committed to a college already. We have deep rankings in 20 states which allow coaches from smaller schools or D3 schools to find athletes who are a great fit.
Even though there are other national rankings (as well as our own currently in the works), it is important for us that every athlete find the perfect fit. Coaches follow our social media, articles, and our rankings to help them create a list of potential athletes.
