With having a few hundred team competing, there are going to be a wide variety of talents, skills and upsets expected to happen and being able to witness these athletes fight to the finish is going to be one for the books.
1st Alliance White
1st Alliance is always going to be a team to be on both the opponents and scouts radar when they arrive to any scheduled event. For 1st Alliance White, their first scheduled game is for March 25 against Invasion 16-Grey, which should be an easy sweep for the team. However, this should still be a game you are going to want to watch or follow as they kick off the MEQ weekend, as some of these teams have never faced each other before. There are some sleepers that both teams have and can be used to an advantage.
Haley Goetz- Setter
Goetz is going to be a key player for the team as she has control over the flow of the game for both her team and opponent as a main setter. Goetz is a team player, racking in over 400 assists during a combined high school and club season, contributing to wins for her team leading them to the MEQ. Goetz is competitive on the court, making sure that she is very attentive when the ball is live and making up as a back end defensive player when need be.
Grace Zaper– RS/OH
Zaper is going to be another key aspect to 1st Alliance this weekend as she is a very strong and competitive athlete when she makes her appearance out on the court. Zaper has the mentality and athletic ability to be on the quick rise to becoming a stock riser in the next coming seasons. Between having a strong swing and consistent approach on the ball, I think it is important to keep her in mind when watching this team compete.
Epic United 16 Premier
Epic United’s 16 Premier team is one to watch considering they don’t the biggest man power that you tend to see with their older teams, but that doesn’t mean take away from the talent that is embedded into the 16 premier team. From their setter to hitters, I believe that the 16 premier team has a chance on making it far in the first few rounds from one thing. Their ability to play in sync. This is a key characteristic I have been able to pick up on from this team and the one thing I know when it comes to a team being in sync together, that is stronger than having just a few star players on one good team.
Kylie McCabe- OPP
McCabe is one of the many developing players on the 16 premier team and what attracts me most to her ability to stand out on the court is her effort and sportsmanship while playing. McCabe is on track and has the capability of being an sleeper player, however, there is always room for improvement for both foundation and fundamental training. McCabe is determined and very attentive and focused when she is on the court and shows that she is teachable to reads her team well.
Reese Ribicki– OH
Ribicki is yet another developing athlete that is on my radar to look out for in performances to take place this weekend at the MEQ tournament. She may not be the best OH on the court, but what stands out about her is her ability to communicate with her team. The determination between her and her teammates is what keeps the drive going for this team and that is important when it comes to wanting to develop not only a winning team, but trust and security with their team which can lead them to progressing far within the tournament.
