The competition was high, and it was clear that everyone came to play. There were so many great athletes on every court, which is why it was tough to pick out the top performers. However, the following athletes caught my eye and made their way onto the All-Ohio Tournament Team.
All-Ohio Tournament Team 17s
Laney Klika Laney Klika 5'7" | DS/L Gilmour Academy | 2023 State #178 Nation OH – AVC CLE Rox 17 Red
Klika was tough on serve receive and great verbally in the back row, standing out as a leader on this team. She was able to dig up those hard driven balls, giving her team a chance to continue the rally and take a swing. She was a big part in this AVC team being the highest finishing Ohio team for 17s.
Lauren Yacobucci Lauren Yacobucci 5'11" | S Magnificat | 2023 State OH – AVC CLE Rox 17 Red
A setter that had great body control on the tight passes, getting up and setting the ball, while staying out of the net. She had great placement with her sets, getting the ball to the hitters so that they could score. She contributed at the service line as well, keeping pressure on the other team with her serves.
Emma Beretich Emma Beretich 6'2" | MB Pickerington Central | 2023 State OH – Mintonette Sports m.71
Recent WVU commit, Beretich was dynamic at the middle position, getting high above the net and penetrating to get some momentum building blocks. She was able to transition off the net followed by a fast approach, allowing her to take some big swings that helped her team win matches. She had great timing with her setter and was fun to watch.
Bella Trainor – CVC 17 Black
A middle that could elevate above the net, making a wall that was hard to hit against. She had a high arm swing with a lot of power and control behind it, causing a lot of problems for the other teams. She was a go to player for this CVC team and a key factor to their success.
Abigail Queen – Mintonette Sports m.72
A libero that could get it done. She was a very vocal player, communicating and calling the open spots for her hitters. She was a leader and kept her teams energy high, helping them through some tough matches. She was strong on serve receive and didn’t let much touch the floor on her side of the net.
