For a few, they’ve always been around, it’s just a matter of me getting to see them live. For others, I had them on a “watch list” of sorts, but never got around to really breaking down what makes them good. Here are five athletes in the 2025 class that have earned their way to a higher level of notice in the class of 2025.
Isabelle Brown Isabelle Brown 5'9" | S Avon | 2025 State #101 Nation IN , 5-9 S, Danville, Circle City
As the 5-1 setter for Circle’s 15-1 squad, Miss Brown is the quintessential workhorse setter. Every second ball is hers, no exceptions and no excuses. In the few matches I’ve watched her work, I don’t recall hearing her ask for help. Ever. That work ethic and motor will carry her far, not only this year at nationals in Indy but for her future aspirations.
Ava Hunter Ava Hunter 5'11" | S Hamilton Southeastern | 2025 State IN , 5-10 S, Hamilton Southeastern, Munciana
With a natty already under her belt from last spring on Munciana’s 14-1, Ava runs the quickest tempo of any setter in this class. She has high hands, is always deceptive, and can be offensive when needed. Now on 15-1 (the Lorax), Miss Hunter is stronger, more accurate and a leader through and through. With the graduation of one setter at HSE this past fall ( Emily Weber Emily Weber 6'0" | S Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State #139 Nation IN , signed with Illinois State), and the other being class of ’24 stud Macy Hinshaw Macy Hinshaw 5'9" | S Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State #75 Nation IN , HSE looks to be in really good hands (literally) moving forward.
Delaney Steers Delaney Steers 5'9" | OH Brownsburg | 2025 State IN , 5-8 OH, Evansville Central, Metro
A hammer from both behind the service line and at the net, this two-sport athlete is one of the more dynamic outsides in this class. Add to the fact that she’s a six-rotation, should-never-come-out-ever type of player, and you find out pretty quick that the future is bright for this young lady. She jumps well, attacks high and hard, and overcomes her height with her athleticism. Being tucked away in the southwestern corner of the state has kept her hidden thus far, but not for much longer.
Addy Tindall Addy Tindall 6'3" | OH Homestead | 2025 State #20 Nation IN , 6-2 OH, Homestead, Team Pineapple
At this age, you see two types of outsides. Those, like Delaney listed above, that are quick, have a fast armswing, great balance and are shorter in stature. Then you have the lumbering, three-rotation type of physical attacker that isn’t as fast, but is stronger than those across the net from her. Addy is a little of each. Her transition is quick, she hits high and hard, but is also a six-rotation passer who can be relied upon to play defense. At her size, she looks more and more like the prototypical Division 1 outside every day, and each of her skills are improving.
Chloe Mullins Chloe Mullins 5'10" | RS Scottsburg | 2025 State IN , 5-10 RS, Scottsburg, Union
I’m listing Chloe as a right side here, even though she has seen time in the middle. A hybrid of a player, Chloe excels off of two feet and has the wingspan of a player easily three inches taller than she. Her feet are quick, she has a high volleyball IQ, and can use all of her size and athleticism to score points. She’s at Union, meaning she’s easily getting better training than her standard high school season, and I look forward to seeing a bigger role for her as she ages.
