Makenzie Wagner Makenzie Wagner 5'10" | RS Providence | 2024 State IN , 5-10 RS, Union, Providence
As the lefty hammer for a perennially top-ten Indiana-based high school program in Providence, it only seems fitting that Makenzie continues to impress during the club season. She’s fiery, athletic, jumps well and always seems to find the terminating attack from anywhere on the court. A couple of top ten finishes in open qualifiers this spring have solidified those facts, and she’s only getting stronger from here.
Macy Hinshaw Macy Hinshaw 5'9" | S Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State #75 Nation IN , 5-9 S, Circle City, Hamilton Southeastern
Some may say that Macy has been a top ten recruit for ages, so she didn’t have all that much to improve. I disagree. Last year at this time, Macy was good, but still learning the ropes on how to efficiently run a 5-1 offense and an open level in her age group. The fact of the matter is that she’s played up an age group this entire time, and is currently the setter for one of the top teams in the country in 17 Open. She’s led a squad to multiple qualifier and tournament wins this spring, and finished their exceptional qualifier run with a runner-up finish to 1st Alliance in the final of the Windy City this past weekend. She’s stronger, smarter and better than a year ago, and she still has two full high school and club seasons left to play AFTER this spring has completed.
Alaleh Tolliver Alaleh Tolliver 5'11" | OH North Central | 2024 State IN , 5-10 OH, Academy, North Central
This high-flying, terminal attacker can makes blocks irrelevant, pure and simple. Over the course of this spring, however, she’s made smarter shots, improved her defense and serve receive, is a threat behind the service line, and has the athleticism to adjust quickly to a faster offense that might not be the most accurate. There are too many things Alaleh has improved this spring to mention in a few short lines, and her work ethic is tireless.
Gabby Scheil Gabby Scheil 5'6" | S Roncalli | 2024 State IN , 5-6 S, Team Indiana, Roncalli
I was a setter and a setter coach in a former life, so separating the good setters from the great ones comes easily to me. Gabby’s size is not a liability, as her athleticism and overall volleyball acuity makes up for any differences of opinion about her stature. She plays defense better than the average setter, knows whom to set in what situation, and consistently makes her attackers better with a better ball every time she makes the second contact. In short, she can run a 5-1 well, at any level.
Renee Greving Renee Greving 6'1" | S Huntington North | 2024 State IN , 6-1 S, Summit, Huntington North
From one extreme to another, Renee is the taller setter that seems to be closer to the collegiate norm these days. Coming from both a smaller club and a non-traditional volleyball program in Huntington, Renee hasn’t been on some folks’ radars this spring, but should be. She makes the position look easy, and can get to a ton of balls with her length and strength that some just can’t. She blocks exceedingly well, plays defense at an above-average level, and can run an offense well with pinpoint location. I like when I find kids that are this good that don’t get enough publicity, yet as I type this, I’m finding that she’s been this good all along. It’s time some colleges noticed the same.
