Continue ReadingPrep Dig partnered up with USA Volleyball to host Recruiting Showcases at some of their National Qualifiers. We just completed Showcase at the Sunshine Classic National Qualifier in Orlando this past weekend. We had over 250 amazing athletes participate over three sessions the day before the tournament. This article series is specifically about those ballers who stood out for various reasons in their showcase. Let’s meet a few of these standouts:
Carly Chavez [2024] 5-7 Libero (HS: O’Connor/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Carly is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but showed some great skills and has entered into our watch list for our next update with what we saw this weekend. She plays for O’Connor High School and also for the famed Alamo volleyball association out of the San Antonio area. She is a lightning quick libero who covers a lot of ground very quickly for her teams. Many coaches noted how extensive her defensive range was during our game-like drills in the showcase. Carly was giving her all and touching every ball near her zone. She did not let anything hit the floor without a valiant effort to touch it. I had many of her court coaches come up to me and tell me how good she was. When the spotlight shines on people, some have the propensity to fold under the pressure, but not Miss Chavez. She was very welcoming of the spotlight and looked very good in both individual drills and team play. Stay tuned on more from Carly as we now have our eye on her for the rest of the club season.
Katrina Misra [2023] 5-10 Outside/Right Side (HS: Lake Nona/Club: Game Point/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Katrina is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Florida State Rankings, but is definitely on our radar after the performance she displayed at the Showcase. She is a six rotational pin attacker from the Florida area. She plays high school at Lake Nona and club for Game Point. We had a few coaches who noted Katrina’s overall ball control during the showcase. She didn’t make many errors in serve receive nor on the offensive end. What stood out to me the most was her defensive versatility. She played all the way around and was digging balls well outside of her body on both left and right. Miss Misra was also very competitive at the net on both the offensive and defensive end. She battled with a lot of very good attackers well during our hitters versus blocker drills. Her versatility was also shown while she was able to hit on both left and right side pins. We think she has a great future and loved what we saw from her during the showcase.
Ashley Sturzoiu [2023] 6-0 Outside (HS: Buford/Club: A5/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ashley is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig National Rankings, but she is definitely on our watch list due to what we saw at the Showcase. We have been fortunate enough to have seen her in live game action multiple time this club season at the Triple Crown NIT and this past weekend at the Sunshine Classic. I got to work with her personally at the Sunshine Showcase and it solidified everything I have heard and seen about her previously. This youngster can absolutely ball in every facet of the game. Her attacking power was unmatched at the net and she moved so well patrolling it blocking also. Nearly every court coach wrote her number down as a top performer and it was very clear to see why. She plays on one of the best 17’s clubs teams in the country and stars for them on the left side. If it was something we were actually tracking at the showcase, her arm speed would have been the fastest amongst the 250 athletes. She should be on everyone’s uncommitted short list for pins. You will not be disappointed if you give her a look.
