Continue ReadingIt’s been a couple weeks since I’ve gotten to watch some high school volleyball, but I wanted to come back and write about some ballers who deserve some recognition. People should just know these studs names, so here is a list of girls with random positions and ages that just flat out dominate their respective divisions.
Chelsea Sutton (OTVA 16 J Will)– I first saw this 16 year old middle blocker at Big South where she was just owning the front row. I witnessed her block three balls in a row at 13-13 in three separate positions. Chelsea Sutton was a force defensively at every angle because of her fast transition skills and quick feet to block pin to pin. Sutton was effective offensively as well where she did her job and placed the ball efficiently tipping wise. Not to mention, she can bounce a ball if that’s what you needed. Chelsea Sutton provides a spark to any defense or offense.
Madeline Snider (No Name VBC 17-1)– A strong left-handed right side from Florida, Madeline Snider made some waves in the 17s division. At first glance, you would obviously think this kid is a offensive threat, and she definitely is, but Snider held her own in the back row too. She’s very smart about how she plays right back because of her impressive reading ability. Plus, in serve receive, she passes well and sits in the pattern too. My favorite part about her game though is when she turns down line from the right side. Snider just recently committed to play at Florida State University. I can’t wait to watch her excel in the offense!
Gabriela Cornier (A5 Mizuno 16-Gabe)– Libero from the Atlanta area, Cornier drew my eye with her defensive talents. I watched her pursue a ball and dive into the stands with a one hand stab to save the play. Cornier is not a huge, energetic machine, but instead focuses on getting the job done. She is always communicating with her teammates and constantly touching as many balls as possible. One of my favorite parts of her game is how she proceeds to push for the ball even if she thinks she can’t get there. There is always a purpose in her movements. Love that!!
Grace Rose (A5 Mizuno 16-Gabe)– From the same club, Grace Rose proves to be a top outside in her class. She hits left and right for her club team and has one of the heaviest arm swings I’ve seen. Rose is not afraid to go swing at a ball whether it’s off the net or in system. When the game is on the line, she’s ripping it which is what every coach wants in a player. Plus, her vision is quite amazing where Rose can see the block and know whether she is being doubled or not in system on each pin. I’d 100% want this kid hitting the ball on game point!
