Continue ReadingThe culminating event for the CEVA season is the Regional tournament. All teams participating in CEVA Power League compete for their final standing of the season. For this series, we will be spotlighting athletes from teams that finished in the top 20 for the 18U/16U division who were nominated by their club coach, or a club coach from another team.
Without further ado, here are the 2023 passers that had stellar performances.
Elle Bruegman Elle Bruegman 5'8" | DS/L Sheldon | 2023 State OR , 5’8”, DS, Sheldon High School, Webfoot Jrs 18 Brian

Breugman received a shout-out from another club team coach, giving her the nod of being an absolute baller for the Webfoot 18 Brian team. She has really come into her own this season, becoming a commanding presence in the back row. They rely on her to control the back row as their primary libero. Bruegman is a vocal leader when on the floor, and she does an exceptional job constantly communicating what she sees.
Kennedy Cheung Kennedy Cheung 5'2" | DS/L Westview | 2023 State OR , 5’2”, DS, Westview High School, North Pacific Juniors 17-1 National

Cheung is a new addition to the NPJ club this season, playing for OJVA previously as a libero/defensive specialist for their 16 Gold team. After making the move, she has made an immediate impact on the court for the NPJ 17 National team. Taking over as the primary libero, Cheung plays with confidence in her ability to put up a settable ball. Where she shines is on defense, with relentless pursuit, balls rarely hit the floor around Cheung.
Sierra Hale, 5’6”, DS, Damascus Christian High School, Aspire NW 17-1

Hale is a new addition to the Aspire NW club, formerly NW Reign, having previously played for Adidas NW, which is no longer a club. She was a major pick-up for the Aspire NW 17-1 team, seeing court time as the team’s libero. Hale is disciplined on serve receive and plays all-out on defense. She made some outstanding saves to ke
Paige Keldsen, 5’6”, DS, Mountain View High School, COVC 18-1

Keldson’s backcourt play was instrumental in the success of COVC 18-1 at Regionals. She made some amazing saves on the defensive end. More specifically, her coverage for the hitters was lights out. She was able to pick up tons of balls that deflected off the block. Her serve receive was also very solid on both days of play.
Kara Richman, 5’8”, DS, Newberg High School, Volleyball Alliance 18-Monica

Richman’s play was vital in her team staying in system consistently throughout the weekend. She played some outstanding defense and serve receive. Her coach commended her ability to read the attack and pick up balls that a lot of players would have not been able to get to.
Paige Stepaniuk Paige Stepaniuk 5'7" | DS/L Ridgefield | 2023 State WA , 5’6”, DS, Ridgefield High School, Excel NW 18-1 Rox
Committed: Portland State University
Stepaniuk has been the hero of the back row for seasons this Excel NW group, and this season was no different. As a 2023 playing among some very elite 18s, she excels at the libero position. She had a very consistent weekend at Regionals, showcasing exceptional ball control. Her coach gave her the nod that she truly plays like a veteran.
