Continue ReadingWe are coming to the end of the volleyball season soon and we wanted to write a few articles on certain club teams who we think deserve some recognition for their season. Qualifier season has now come to an end and some teams have punched their ticket to USA Volleyball Junior Nationals, which will be held in Indianapolis later on this summer. Let’s take a look at a team who has had a great season so far and who we will be seeing at Nationals. Take a bow Frisco Flyers 16 APX Dylan…you have earned it.
This upstart Frisco Flyers organization has taken Texas by storm the past couple of years and has entered their name into the best of Texas hat. They have teams in every age group that are in the running for best in their age groups. We are consistently seeing their teams in contention on day three of prestigious tournaments. Their 16’s age group is one of their best. 16 APX Dylan has been getting better and better throughout the whole season and is peaking at the right time. They have an overall record of 46-15 and rank 20th overall in the nation according to AES results. They qualified in the Open division of USA Junior Nationals by placing 3rd at the Sunshine Volleyball Classic Qualifier in Orlando. I have watched them on three separate occasions this year and love what I see. We are proud of their success and look forward to seeing them in Indy later this summer for Nationals. Even though we can write about each and every athlete that contributed to their success, I am only going to cover a few players that stood out while I was watching them. Let’s meet a few of them.
Jessica Jones Jessica Jones 6'2" | MB Wakeland Highschool | 2024 State #169 Nation TX [2024] 6-2 Middle (HS: Wakeland/Club: Frisco Flyers/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jessica is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but will for sure be on it once I update them in a few weeks. She plays at Wakeland High School and also club for the Frisco Flyers program out of north Texas. This young lady has been gathering major interest from college coaches according to my sources. She is a lengthy middle who excels at the net. Miss Jones can easily play at the next level in the middle or the right side. Jess plays well above the net as she is part of the famed ten foot club meaning she can approach touch ten feet high. When I watched her play in Orlando, I loved how she is able to hit around a block in the middle. She hit both cut and cut-back shots with great power to score. Her fast arm is something a lot of people see at first glance, but her foot-speed is what catches my attention. She plays fast while blocking pin to pin and it is a huge reason why she has her team competing at a high level.
Paloma Gonzalez Paloma Gonzalez 6'0" | MB Bishop Lynch | 2024 State TX [2024] 6-0 Middle (HS: Bishop Lynch/Club: Frisco Flyers/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Paloma is currently listed as the 65th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Bishop Lynch High School and also for the up and coming Frisco Flyers volleyball club program. We profiled her before and here is a refresher on what we stated, “Miss Gonzalez is a fantastic blocker and attacker who made us open our eyes when we watched her perform. I was in awe of her strength and power from both her lower body and upper body when attacking. There are times when she transitions from defense and doesn’t even have time to take a full approach and still uses her leg strength to approach hard. She hits the ball at such a high contact point that it will keep blockers from slowing her down. But the best aspect of her play is the body control to turn on the ball and throttle it away from the strong side of the block.” What stood out when I watched her play in Orlando was just how powerful this young lady is. She unleashed her cannon multiple times and it was very difficult for anyone to stop her. She hit bombs through the block on numerous occasions. When the blockers were actually able to make contact with her ball, she scored well out of bounds tooling it. Paloma is a college level recruit who should be on short lists now.
Reagan Bedell Reagan Bedell 5'11" | OH Independence | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-11 Outside (HS: Independence/Club: Frisco Flyers/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Reagan is currently listed as the 77th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Bedell plays at Independence High School and also club for the Frisco Flyers program out of the North Texas region. We profiled her when we added her to the rankings a while back and this is what I stated, “This two-sport athlete divides her time up between softball and volleyball and it doesn’t slow her down on either sport. She is a beast that has already racked up 293 kills on a .277 hitting percentage as a sophomore on her varsity squad. Being the go to hitter as a sophomore might scare some players away due to the pressure and hype. But Reagan is as poised as ever doing what she loves dominating on the court. She can unleash that cannon from the front row or the back row and has double digit kills in almost every match so far this season. We are going to keep our eye on her career and hope you do too.” We are glad we kept our eyes on her because she is putting on a show this club season. She is one of the biggest reasons why this team is able to compete at a high level. Her scoring is at an all-time high from the left side against stellar competition. In Orlando when I was watching, she put on a show and was almost unstoppable. But what is totally underrated is her ball control. She is a six-rotation outside who helps keep her team in-system with her serve receive skills. Stay tuned for more on Miss Bedell as we think she has a lot of potential.
Other notable players for this star-studded roster are Ava Steffe Ava Steffe 6'1" | RS Memorial | 2025 State TX (2025 playing up an age group) who has been dominant at times on both pins, high-flying and powerful outside Reese Renfrow, and stud libero Morgan Kelley Morgan Kelley 5'5" | DS/L Celina | 2024 State TX who is super fast all over the court and has excellent ball control. We will be highlighting these young ladies and others from this team in another article soon as they gear up for Nationals. Stay tuned for more from this wonderful team.
