Their biggest win might have to be their first place finish in Baltimore, MD at the JVA Charm City Challenge. These girls have worked hard all year and deserve some recognition. Here are four players that shine on this Triangle 15 Black team!
Lindley Miller- Standing at 6’3, Lindley Miller proves to be the go-to as a middle hitter. Of course, she is a physical presence at the net blocking wise, but she severely helps the team offensively. My favorite swings from this stud is when she runs a 31 because of her ability to stay open to the court and hit straight on yet also her control to hit cut back as well. Her offensive range significantly helps her game and the team’s because now the defense has no idea what to do with her. Miller is for sure a lethal weapon and will be one to watch as she gets older!
BreAnna McMillan- A left-handed beast, this setter and opposite, BreAnna McMillan, helps out the team in every aspect of the game! This club team runs a 6-2 which means there is always a right side hitter in the front row and a setter in the back row. McMillan fills both roles where she plays all the way around which is a feat in itself. What I love about her is the versatility she brings to the team. McMillan is a high-flyer in the front row where she jumps around and makes play offensively, yet in the back row, she gets the job done with a smooth second touch. BreAnna McMillan is a huge key to this squad!
Katie Raymer- I think the best word to describe this libero is steady. Katie Raymer may not be flashy or screaming at the top of her lungs, but you can count on her every play to get the job done. Raymer’s serve receive control is just beautiful to watch with her effortless platform and quick feet to the ball. She is always taking up half the court in serve receive and making it look so easy. Plus, if you just sit there and watch her for a whole play, she’s always moving. Raymer is backing someone up in serve receive, covering a hitter, or pushing for a ball defensively. Katie Raymer is just a solid libero.
Harper Nelson- One thing I learned about Harper Nelson is she’s hitting a heavy ball. As an outside hitter, your job is to be able to take care of the “trash” whether it be shots, tooling off the block, or straight hitting for power. Nelson is going to ram back and hit for the fences at those hands. Even when she hits out of the pipe, she’s muscling that ball in the court somehow. One of my favorite swings I’ve seen this kid take is on the right side where she went up at 21-21 and beamed a ball down line. Fierce, determined, unafraid. All qualities you want in your outside hitter, and that’s who Harper Nelson is.
