We usually specialize in articles on individual players, but every now and then we like to highlight entire clubs because of amazing achievements. The Sooner state has 67 total clubs, which includes boys club teams, beach clubs and girls club teams. Every year USA Volleyball selects a National Indoor Club of the Year to be inducted into the USAV Hall of Fame ceremony. This year it will be held in Orlando, FL on May 25th. Nominations were made by the public and it was sent to a USAV committee to be voted on. We are proud to announce that Oklahoma Charge was selected to be this year’s National Indoor Club of the Year.
Twenty-three years ago, club director Larry Taylor and crew started with only one team. They have worked really hard over the years at building a great organization with an amazing culture and now currently sit at thirty-eight teams. They are also opening up a brand new Tulsa site next season and expect another fifteen at that location. This season they will have twelve teams playing at Nationals (USAV or AAU). We have watched quite a few of their older teams in action at multiple big tournaments this season and they have represented the state very well. I have watched multiple players this season get tons of accolades and garner a lot of college interest by their courts. We have tons of their players listed in our State Rankings.
With the hire of former Oklahoma University head coach, Santiago Restrepo, they are striving to put out one of the best coaching staffs in the state next year and continue to produce amazing results. They have also hired former 16-year OU assistant coach and college standout Kelly Files to bolster their already amazing staff. Oklahoma Charge has had numerous players go on to become stars at the next level each year and look to continue that trend in the coming years. The fact that USA selected them to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as the 2022 National Indoor Club of the Year speaks for itself. We would like to point out that this is a first for any Oklahoma club. Please help us congratulate this wonderful organization on their amazing achievement.
