Some of the best up-and-coming talent from the midwest have come together for one epic event taking place in Michigan.
Here are some of the big performers from day 2.
Chidimma Obi – OPP – AVC
She wasn’t chosen as a top performer for nothing. Chidimma Obi was one of the most impressive attackers in the entire tournament. With a lot of power and great shot selection on the right pin, Obi was hard to defend. Further, Obi’s block was unbreakable.
Madelyn Smetana – OPP – Rock City
The 1s team from Rock City is full of high-level attackers, Madelyn Smetana is their big gun on the left side. With a whip of a left arm, Smetana can run a very fast tempo and cut a wide array of shots from the opposite pin.
Olivia Limbach – OH – A2
A huge key to being a successful outside hitter is the ability to pass and then attack. Olivia Limbach was probably one of the most solid passing attackers I saw throughout The Finale. Very smooth with her tracking of the ball, she allows her squad to run a diverse offense.
Kathryn Sowko – OH – Rock City
When in doubt, send the ball out to Kathryn Sowko. Rock City’s go-to option, its to no wonder why that is. Sowko can really crank on the ball, but its her variety of shots that caused big trouble for opponents on day 2. Sowko was also a pretty solid member of the reception.
Peyeton Pampush – OH – AVC
AVC is a really tough team to see if you’re going against them because they have many options, including Peyeton Pampush. A healthy six rotation player, Pampush could get the ball in the front or behind the 10-foot line and deliver a heavy ball.
Gwyneth Gill – MB – Rock City
While Rock City’s 16-2s team is pretty tough team to contend with on the pins, they have quite the weapon up the middle with Gwyneth Gill. Gill had some highlight reel worthy attacks on the 1 ball and her block was pretty solid, getting a lot of touches to slow down the ball.
Megan Savage – MB – A2
She didn’t see the ball much in transition, but what most impressed me with this player is her lateral movement along the net. Megan Savage is a great blocker and net defender for A2. Her movement is great and she constantly had her hands up and ready for any ball at the net.
Niyah Lester – MB – Rock City
I love seeing a middle that can run a fast ball up the middle. Niyah Lester was a highly efficient attacker with her connection with her setter. The duo like to run a fast ball in front of the setter and no matter how many times they ran it, opposing blocks couldn’t get their hands up fast enough.
Mia Matchett – S – A2
Like I said previously, the passing of Limbach was huge for Mia Matchett being able to run such a fast and efficient offense. Matchett has a very fluid and smooth approach to her balls and likes to run a diverse offense with great consistency in tempo and location.
Maria Insana Maria Insana 5'3" | DS/L Kenston | 2023 State OH – L – Rock City
I may have seen a jump top spin serve once this entire club season, I get to Maria Insana Maria Insana 5'3" | DS/L Kenston | 2023 State OH ‘s serve and I see her go on a FIVE ace run! As a lefty serving out of the five zone, she had a similar curvature to a serve of Micha Hancock‘s and it deservedly scored at an alarming rate.
