Columbus was on fire this weekend with some of the best teams in country coming together for one last tune up before we hit the road for nationals!
Not only is nationals around the corner for this 16s group, but recruiting opens up! This was a division you did NOT want to miss this weekend. These ’bros were putting out the hottest of attackers.
Here are some of the best defensive dynamos from Summerfest!
Brenna Ginder Brenna Ginder 5'5" | DS/L Carroll Fort Wayne | 2024 State #137 Nation IN – 5’6 L – Team Pineapple
I cannot wait to see who picks up this one in the 2024 class. Brenna Ginder Brenna Ginder 5'5" | DS/L Carroll Fort Wayne | 2024 State #137 Nation IN had a huge weekend for Team Pineapple. I was always impressed with Ginder, but this weekend she kicked her play up to an 11 and it was so much fun to watch. Unafraid to throw her body at the ball, she’s relentless as a defender and more times than not, it paid off greatly for her squad.
Triangles point off of a Kiarrah Horne swing – but can we show some love to Team Pineapple’s libero?!?

Ava Dunnigan Ava Dunnigan 5'4" | DS/L Musselman | 2024 VA – 5’3 L – Paramount
With as big of hitters as this libero has on her side, you can sometimes get lost in the noise, but not this one. Ava Dunnigan Ava Dunnigan 5'4" | DS/L Musselman | 2024 VA was making some noise of her own in the back. A scrappy defender, she’s used to getting bombs thrown at her in the practice gym and it showed. You weren’t getting much down hitting at this left back defender.
Hailee Mack Hailee Mack 6'0" | DS/L IMG Academy | 2024 #126 Nation KY – 5’6 L – KIVA
She wasn’t the scrappiest of the bunch, but she didn’t need to be. Hailee Mack Hailee Mack 6'0" | DS/L IMG Academy | 2024 #126 Nation KY was making some crazy plays without the flash of a dive, because she already knew where the attackers were going. Her vision was top notch throughout the weekend and Mack was untouchable in serve receive.
Carley Piercefield Carley Piercefield 5'4" | DS/L Lakewood | 2024 State #90 Nation MI – 5’4 L – FaR Out
If her phone isn’t ringing off the hook in a week, I’ll be shocked. Carley Piercefield Carley Piercefield 5'4" | DS/L Lakewood | 2024 State #90 Nation MI continues to impress and she got the opportunity to show off just what she was made of this weekend against the likes of Metro and Triangle, two wildly physical teams. Piercefield can manage a vast area of court in both defense and receive and she never bows out of a challenge.
Kendall Hopewell – FaR Out 16 – one of the most well rounded middles in the class! (Nice set Carley Piercefield! #JVA #SummerFest pic.twitter.com/LtWtr8ly23

Mailinh Godschall Mailinh Godschall 5'7" | DS/L Centennial (MD) | 2024 State #183 Nation VA – 5’4 L – Metro
Speaking of Metro, they’re full of physical hitters, yes, but they got some top level defense too. Mailinh Godschall Mailinh Godschall 5'7" | DS/L Centennial (MD) | 2024 State #183 Nation VA had a ton of big time plays this weekend. This ’bro is a go-getter and no ball is off-limits. Godschall plays with a lot of speed and tenacity, making her defense some of the toughest to contend with.
Greta McKee Greta McKee 5'5" | DS/L Northville | 2024 State MI – 5’4 L – L2
This is a player who’s fallen a little under the radar, but I continue to admire the play of Greta McKee Greta McKee 5'5" | DS/L Northville | 2024 State MI . She’s not a big, flashy player, but she’s an unsung hero for this L2 team. As the season has gone on, her defensive reads have grown tremendously and her reception game is some of the best coming out of Michigan in the 2024 class.
