There will be 64 talented teams from across the country competing in this awesome tournament and hundreds of college coaches in attendance. Southern California will be well represented with three awesome teams in the 16 American Division. It will be a tournament of amazing volleyball and I couldn’t be more excited to cover it in person. We will be previewing a few of the players that will be showcasing their abilities for these awesome California teams. They are some of the best players in the 2024 grad class. Let’s meet a few of the talented players who college coaches need to watch.
Sunshine 16 Westside
They are currently 39-29 overall. They are currently ranked as the 44th best team in the Southern California region according to AES results. Westside 16 finished 9th overall in the American division of the Salt Lake City National Qualifier. They won their bid via the Southern California Regional tournament. Outside Lucy Bloom has a lightning fast arm swing and when she gets a hold of a ball it can be lights out for the opponent. She thrives on the high tempo balls on the left side and her squad goes to her often. India Clark is tall and can play out of the middle or the right. She has a solid right arm and she will for sure garner some interest with the level of play I saw in Salt Lake City. Setters Annika Anderson and Kate Whiteley steady the ship for this team and work well together as they run their 6-2 offense. Both are very accurate and space the defense out as they move the ball around to all if their hitters.
Forza1 16 UA Roland
They are currently 44-26 overall. They are currently ranked as the 19th best team in the Southern California region according to AES results. 16 UA Roland finished 23rd overall in the USA division of the Salt Lake City Qualifier and Red Rock Rave Qualifier. They won their bid via the Southern California Regional tournament. Outside Kyleigh Moore is super athletic and extremely powerful. This young lady can hit on either left or right side. She is one of their primary weapons on offense and she will attract a lot of attention from scouts. Libero Jazeli Vandenburgh showed out on defense when I watched them play at the Red Rock Qualifier in Vegas. She moves exceptionally well on the court and has amazing fast twitch muscle fibers that are showcased as she reacts to hitters and deflections. Kamryn Deleon is smaller than most pins but was getting up very high with a fantastic vertical and powering the ball through and around the block on the left side.
SG Elite 16 Elite
They are currently 41-22 overall and have been rolling as of late. They are currently ranked as the 9th best team in the Southern California region according to AES results. 16 Elite finished 3rd overall in the Liberty division of the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in Spokane and also Red Rock Rave National Qualifier in Vegas. They won their bid via the Southern California Regional tournament. Jessica Powell has been great for this team out of the middle. She is a tall drink of water that can dominate at times on offense. Miss young had perfect timing on the quick tempo sets and was unstoppable turning on the ball to score in both corners. Adonia Anene is a blocking machine who gets up well above the net. She has long arms and presses very well to seal the net from her opponent. Luisa Madrigal Luisa Madrigal 6'0" | OH Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy | 2024 State #198 Nation CA is another lengthy pin attacker on their squad who can garner some interest from college programs.
I will be in attendance at nationals and will try to cover as many pvlayers/teams as I can. Be sure to share your schedules with me on Twitter once they become live. There are some other great players on these teams that we will be covering during the four day tourney. Stay tuned to see who plays well and deserves kudos as we will be writing articles on how they perform. We will have some good pictures of their play also.
