There will be 48 talented teams from across the country competing in this awesome tournament and hundreds of college coaches in attendance. California will be well represented with four awesome teams who qualified in the 15 Freedom Division. It will be a weekend full of amazing volleyball and I couldn’t be more excited to cover it in person. We will be previewing a few of the players that will be showcasing their abilities for these awesome California teams. They are some of the best players in the 2025 grad class. Let’s meet a few of the talented players who college coaches need to watch this weekend.
Vision 15 Blue
This team has had a great season this year. They are currently 29-19 overall and have played some great competition. Vision 15 Blue finished 5th overall in the USA division of the Pacific Northwest Qualifier. They also finished 13th overall in the Red Rock Rave National Qualifier, which had 94 great teams. They won their bid via the Northern California Regional tournament. Libero Jaemysen Martin has a phenomenal serve and moves well in the back row not letting much fall near her zone. Outside hitter Grace Gowdy is their “go to” attacker on the left side pin. She has a great frame and hits the ball with a very heavy arm. Right side Daniela Eline gets a lot of attention offensively and hits well both down the line and cross court. Middle Maya Ortega attacks to both corners very well as she is a viable scoring threat. Setter Maya Walker is one to watch as she runs a 5-1 very well for this awesome squad.
Red Rock 15 Karsen
This club has multiple locations throughout the state of California and their 15 Karsen team has had a fantastic season. They are currently 30-11 overall and are currently ranked 9th in the Northern California Region according to AES results. They finished 31st overall in the USA division of the Red Rock Rave National Qualifier, which had 94 great teams. They won their bid via the Northern California Regional tournament and are looking to prove themselves amongst the best in the country. Setter Shannon Bullard does a great job moving the ball around to all of her attackers. Lefty right side Sara Hashimi is one of their “go to” hitters and does a great job scoring for her squad. Libero Fumika Ono plays fast and furious as she is all over the court making sure that no ball falls anywhere near her zone. Middle Sarah Littlefield has a great frame that is built for the position. She is able to turn on the ball well to score in zone one.
Forza1 15 UA
Forza1 15 UA currently sits ranked as the 19th best team in the Southern Cali region according to AES results. They are currently 40-23 overall and have played some great competition. They also finished 5th overall in the Red Rock Rave National Qualifier, which had 94 great teams. They won their bid via the Southern California Region. Setter Devin Hicks is a jump setting force who distributes the ball so well to her hitters. She has tons of power to push the ball to both pins during out of system balls. Outside hitter Miley Thunstrum is a beast on the left side pin. This young lady has power for days and unleashes it on every swing. Her counterpart is a legit weapon herself. Left side pin Klea Tarja has the length and power in her right arm to do some serious damage for the rest of her volleyball career. This team has some great size and strength to put a scare in the rest of the field in Indy. I am very intrigued by their potential in this division.
Sunshine 15 Westside
Sunshine has had a lot of experience this year and are peaking at just the right time to do some damage at Nationals. They are currently 34-32 overall and have played some great competition all year long. They finished 9th overall in the USA division of both the Salt Lake City National Qualifier and the Windy City National Qualifier. They won their bid via the Southern California Region. Right side Yva Akounou is phenomenal at scoring off of tools off of the block. Her power makes it very difficult for opposing blockers to block consistently. Ryan Gilhooly uses her lower body very well in her picturesque approach. She creates a lot of momentum in her last two steps of her approach to help her rise up and attack. Tiffany Armour is a wall in the middle as she stops would be attackers with force. She plays the position with so much passion and her team feeds off of it. Six rotation outside hitter Logan Devereux does it all for this team. Her passing in serve receive and defense out of middle back is one reason why this team stays in system and strong against everyone they face.
I will be in attendance at nationals and will try to cover as many players/teams as I can. Be sure to share your schedules with me on Twitter once they become live. There are some other great players that we will be covering during the three-day weekend. Stay tuned to see who plays well and deserves kudos as we will be writing articles on how they perform. We will have some good pictures of their play also.
