Throughout the last week, over 20 players have been mentioned as showing up to compete, impressing coaches, and pushing themselves through two long days of nothing but volleyball. It would be impossible to mention all of the players that attended Elite Camp this year, however every athlete that was there all put on a show to best expose their athleticism. There are a few standouts that made a lasting impression throughout camp and finished strong through each session of Elite Camp.
Here are the final four players that made Kiva’s High School Elite Camp all the more Elite:
Jaazaniah Calvert (MB/OPP) Lexington United 76 ’24
Calvert is a quick-twitch front-row threat that is a natural athlete. She is light on her feet, yet very explosive in her approaches off both one foot behind and tempo sets in front of the setter. Her agility makes her an aggressive piece of her team’s offense with the potential to produce as a middle hitter and right-side attacker. As a defender, she does not shy away from the opportunity to make a play for her team and has a great understanding of how to get the ball where it needs to go amidst the chaos.
Aleicea Watson (MB) Kiva 16- Red ’24
Aleicia is another quick natural athlete and that shows in all her skills as a middle blocker. To start, she has a great vertical, reaching 9’10″ on her approach, and she has the ability to put the ball anywhere on the court. She also is a very hard-working blocker that doesn’t give up on setting up a great block for her defenders to read around. Even if she is late, she finds a way to get her hands over the net fast, taking away swings from the hitters she is blocking against.
Melanie Morris (L/DS) K2- 18 Jota ’23
Melanie runs the backcourt’s defense with nothing but the speed and finesses each chance she has to make a play on the ball. She knows how to body the ball to make it a quality dig for her setter and uses her fast reads and feet to pick up anything that is thrown on her side of the court. She has a great will to keep the ball off the ground backed by her phenomenal body control, ultimately making her ball control unmatched.
Mya White Mya White 6'1" | OH Lebanon | 2024 State OH (OH) Elevation- 16 Butcher ’24
Talk about a ball that gets on defenders heavy and fast. White’s arm swing is like a whip, beating many of the blocks that she is up against. Her front-row success can also be accredited to her court vision as an attacker and ability to track sets to get an aggressive swing no matter what kind of ball is put up for her. If it’s a low swing, she speeds her approach up and gets on the ball fast, when it’s out of system, she patiently waits so she can attack the ball at the peak of her jump. She is all-around aggressive, including in her backcourt play making her a great 6-rotation outside hitter.
