Continue ReadingThe Mitten state was well represented in the 2022 AAU National tournament. Just today, crowning three champions from Michigan in the 15 Classic (FaR Out), 17 Open (Legacy) and 15 Open (Legacy). But there was much more where that came from, just in the 15 Open division.
Yes, Legacy had a huge day today, crowning not one, but two champions. Legacy’s 15-1’s team had a dominate week, going a perfect 12-0 and only dropping three sets throughout. This squad is led by who’s projected to be the top recruit of the 2025 class, Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI . Flynn garnered herself MVP honors for her efforts, alongside All-American teammates Olivia Grenadier Olivia Grenadier 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2025 State #91 Nation MI and Gabby DiVita.
The trio proved to be too much to handle during this championship run. Campbell is the dynamic, 6’2 setter with a heavy lefty arm when she calls her own number. Grenadier and DiVita however are her favorite numbers to call. Grenadier is a huge presence in the middle with some speed to her game, whether its in her block, her jump or her arm swing, you blink and you’ll miss it. DiVita is only a 2026 and playing amongst some of the best in this class, six rotations of elite passing and defense with a wicked whip of an arm.
They weren’t the only team from the Mitten to make it into the gold bracket, oh no. Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno finished an impressive third place while FaR Out 15 Black was knocked out in the quarterfinals by the eventual champs.
Michigan 15 Mizuno had an impressive run of their own that saw huge performances from All-Americans Isabelle Busignani Isabelle Busignani 6'1" | OH Marian | 2025 State #73 Nation MI and Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI . The two were an instantaneous duo. The two proved that they can both not only hang with some of the best in the country, but ARE some of the best in the 2025 class. The two weren’t without help though, with huge contributions from Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI and McKenna Payne McKenna Payne 5'7" | DS/L SMCC | 2025 State #105 Nation MI . The duo were huge in receive and defense, as well as Costlow’s crafty offense.
FaR Out 15 Black was another huge contender that couldn’t contain the beast of Legacy. But they did however show out and out did my own expectations for this team. Going 9-2 with an impressive line up of teams, the two losses both came from the eventual champions and runner-ups. For a team that didn’t have the toughest of schedules this season, they delivered. And by they, i mean Navea Gauthier Navea Gauthier 6'1" | OH Shelby | 2025 State #56 Nation MI had a showcase week in Orlando. All-American honors were well deserved and expected for this young gun. She was accompanied by some stellar performances by Mallory Johnson and Abby Pickard.
And yes, if you’re counting, that is SIX total All-Americans, all hailing from the state of Michigan. Thirteen awards were giving out, including MVP, six of which come from one state. Michigan has been cooking up quite the talent in recent years and it looks to be this 2025 class is just making it even more of a hot bed in the Great Lakes state.
