While not being able to be on-site, the subscription to Ballertv has come in handy as I’ve been able to catch some highlights up to this point. With so many teams in action, it’s almost impossible to watch the full contest! Here is what we know after the first couple of days in a few divisions.
2-3, 2-3, and 2-3
This is what we saw from the Kansas and Missouri teams represented in the 15 Open Division. All three teams had matching records, the difference is where those teams place in their pools. The team that ended up in the best position was Dynasty 15 Black. Their 2-3 record was good enough to allow them to finish 3rd in their pool, which keeps them alive in gold pool action. They defeated NKYVC and MiElite in those two victories. Mavs KC 15-1 and HPSTL 15 Royal both fell to 5th place in their pools with those same records. Mavs won their first two matches of the championships and were in a good position but dropped the next three all in three sets. 15 Royal started hot just like the Mavs winning their first matches out the gate. They would lose a couple of tight matches in two sets before losing a heart-breaking 3rd set 16-14 to Drive Nation.
Rockwood Thunder leads the charge in the National
We knew Rockwood Thunder 15 Elite would be a contender in the National division. Typically, teams who are open-level teams fall to this division, they are normally a favorite to win a ship. After two days they stand 4-1 after winning their pool. Their one loss came to Flyers, which included a 30-28 first set.
Mavs 816 15-1 dropped their opener before rattling off three straight dubs to finish 3-2 and third place in their pool. Their pool finish allowed them to stay in contention for a title. Mavs 816 15-2 joined three other teams with a 3-2 record but unfortunately, they were the odd team out with the 4th place finish. This would knock them out of the top pools going into day 3.
The final team representing St. Louis was HPSTL 15 Orange. They came in on a hot streak but found themselves in a tough pool which resulted in one win in five matches.
Two KC Teams active in the USA
PVA 15 Elite and KC Power 15-1 both were teams that could possibly be participants in higher divisions. Both teams earned bids in the USA and had hopes of winning a title. PVA started off hot, winning their pool with a 4-1 record. They let their first match slip out of their hands before raking off four straight including a couple of two-point three-set wins. KC Power didn’t find the same success. In a pool that saw three teams finish 4-1, their 2-3 record placed them in 4th place but this was just enough to keep them in gold play entering day three.
