Continue ReadingPrep Dig has partnered with USA Volleyball to provide the most comprehensive showcase prior to the start of the 14s & 15s age groups on June 26th and also another showcase on June 30th prior to the start of the 16’s & 17’s age groups of the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships. This will feature the best of the best players in the entire country and we couldn’t be more excited to run it. Over the past 4 years, Prep Dig showcases have hosted over 2,500 prospects in front of hundreds of college coaches from across the country. In addition to watching the showcase in-person or via BallerTV, coverage of this event will be made available to hundreds of our college coach subscribers on PrepDig.com.
This series of articles will preview some amazing players who are already signed up for the Showcase. Seeing these players in person is going to give us a perfect perspective of how they move, how the ball rebounds off of their platform or hands, and other intricate aspects of their skill-sets. Here are a few players that I cannot wait to see live in person and take them through drills.
Carly Chavez Carly Chavez 5'7" | DS/L O'Connor | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-7 Libero (HS: O’Connor/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Carly is currently ranked as the 122nd prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for O’Connor High School and also for the famed Alamo volleyball club program. We profiled her last month when she wowed us with her performance at the Sunshine Showcase and here is a little from the article, “She is a lightning quick libero who covers a lot of ground very quickly for her teams. Many coaches noted how extensive her defensive range was during our game-like drills in the showcase. Carly was giving her all and touching every ball near her zone. She did not let anything hit the floor without a valiant effort to touch it. I had many of her court coaches come up to me and tell me how good she was. When the spotlight shines on people, some have the propensity to fold under the pressure, but not Miss Chavez. She was very welcoming of the spotlight and looked very good in both individual drills and team play. Carly impressed me greatly with her defensive range. There were not a lot of balls that dropped near her zone when I watched. Alamo’s success this season is a direct correlation to both her serve receive and defense. This young lady is able to fly all over the court and keep the ball alive for her team to stay in the rally.” She has been in our showcases before and our court coaches loved her tenacity in pursuit of the ball. She will be someone that coaches will love when it comes to overall ball control. Take her name down as a player to watch if your college team needs a libero in this class.
Kamrynn Clay Kamrynn Clay 5'8" | S Clemens | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-7 Setter (HS: Clemens/Club: United VBA/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kamrynn is currently ranked as the 137th best prospect overall in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays high school volleyball at Samuel Clemens and club for a brand new club named United VBA directed by former Texas State University volleyball coach Tracy McWilliams-Smith. We profiled her last year and stated the following, “She is a gifted setter who has already made her mark on the varsity level by accumulating 306 assists, 23 kills, and 125 digs to go along with 9 aces. She is very athletic and is capable to running a fast offense already at a young age. She pushes the pins well and goes side to side during rallies to keep the defense off-balance. During club United often uses her as an attacker as she is skilled in a variety of ways. She has a very high ceiling in the sport and she will learn a lot from her club director as she has tons of coaching experience. I hope Kam soaks up all of that knowledge from coach Tracy.” We are eager to watch her connect with some of the best hitters in the nation during drills. She has progressed very nicely this year throughout the club season in the setting position. Her out of system sets to the right side are fast and super consistent. She is very strong with her release which allow her to push the ball to the pins with ease from really far away.
Tally Grissom Tally Grissom 5'10" | DS/L Liberty Christian Varsity | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-10 Libero/Outside (HS: Argyle/Club: Texas Advantage /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Tally is currently listed as the 81st best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays for Argyle High School and also for the famed Texas Advantage volleyball club program. We profiled her a few times and here is a little from one of our articles, “Miss Grissom is a wonderful lengthy libero that college coaches are already talking about. In the world of junior volleyball, most people are used to seeing smaller liberos who are fast across the court. They have to push off and use extra steps in order to extend their range. Tally has the length in her body to lunge out and touch balls that other liberos have to push off and laterally extend their body to the floor. Tally’s ball control is one big reason why she is listed so high. She is able to take over a match with her ability to keep her team in-system. Did we mention that she can hit also? She plays outside also for Argyle and has stepped up to be a great part of their offense this season.” I love how versatile this young lady is. She is listed as both a libero and an outside and I have witnessed her skills in person. She hit for TAV when I watched in person earlier this season and was the primary ball control person in serve receive for six rotations. She is the real deal and there is nothing on the court that she cannot do. Stay tuned for more on her from the showcase.
