Continue ReadingOnly about a month away, volleyball will be in season for the 2022 season. Once July 15th arrives, most high schools will begin practicing. Teams will likely attend summer leagues and team camps before July 15th. We are going to take a look at a handful of players we think will have a huge senior season for their respective school teams.
Emily Boyer Emily Boyer 5'11" | S Carl Albert | 2023 State OK – She plays for 5A Carl Albert. She has already committed to set at a top division II program in Oklahoma Baptist University. They will be getting a quality player that can do a little bit of everything. As a setter, she does a great job of high pointing the ball and being neutral with her hands. This creates a tough visual for blockers to read. Besides her solid setting, she can also put a ball away when she is on the front row. She has a very mature approach that allows the whole court to be an option. Tack on her tall frame for blocking, great anticipation for digging, and solid float serve, this makes for a player that opposing coaches must game plan around. She will look to help guide her team back to the state title match again in her senior season.
Olivia Dewitt Olivia Dewitt 5'5" | DS/L Charles Page | 2023 State OK – She plays for 6A Sand Springs. She is currently ranked #2 overall DS and 16th overall player in the 2023 class. She has had some really solid defensive specialists on her team in previous years to mentor and push her. It is her time to shine now in her senior season. She will be a great leader for the Sandites, as she brings a ton of energy and drive to the game. Her lateral quickness and fast feet allow her to cover a lot of ground in the back row. She played up on Virago 18-1 this past club season. Playing a little bit faster and higher level volleyball will only help prepare her for this upcoming school season.
Jessica Shildt Jessica Shildt 5'3" | DS/L Bishop Kelley | 2023 State OK – She played as a defensive specialist for the powerhouse UPVBC 17 Open, and one of the best high schools in Oklahoma, 6A Bishop Kelley. If you haven’t seen her play, it is a must. She is so good at reading hitters and positioning herself on the court that it almost looks effortless as she digs hard driven swings on the regular. She works hard to make it look that easy though. She brings mental toughness that really bleeds over into her teammates. She is definitely someone you want to have on your side of the net. I look at her moving up the rankings and starting to get colleges offers her senior season.
Riley Roberts Riley Roberts 5'10" | S Norman North | 2023 State OK – She plays for 6A Norman North. She is a setter that has committed to play close to home at division II University of Central Oklahoma, who is another top program in the country. Like the others on this list, she plays high level club ball and for a great high school program. This combination allows athletes to constantly be pushed and sharpen their skills. She is a competitor down to the bone. She loves to win and she will do whatever is necessary to make that happen. She is a very cerebral player who makes great decisions to help her hitters be in one-on-one situations. She also has a dagger of a serve. It really puts pressure on teams early in the rally. I look for her to help guide Norman North back to the state title match.
We look forward to covering more players and teams this coming school season. Oklahoma has taken a big step this club season. This will make for even better matchups in the coming months.
