We’re starting with Nebraska’s 2023s, the soon-to-be seniors on the high school stage. Admittedly, it can be hard to shuffle around a class that is so experienced and firmly embedded in the state’s prep scene. There were still opportunities for movement after the club season, though, and we’re going to talk about that here.
This is the latest group of stock risers from our Nebraska 2023 rankings update.
Brooklyn Fuchs Brooklyn Fuchs 6'2" | MB Lincoln East | 2023 State NE – 6’1 MB – Premier Nebraska 17 Gold
It has been quite a calendar year for Fuchs. Her Premier 17 Gold team dazzled us all year with its frontcourt firepower, and this talented middle blocker was a major catalyst for the team’s success. That idea was affirmed by her early-season commitment to play D1 volleyball at Lipscomb.
Emily Huss Emily Huss 6'5" | MB Fairbury | 2023 State NE – 6’5 MB – VCNebraska 17 Elite
Let’s stay with the middle blocker position and discuss another player bound to play at the D1 level. Huss is a future Omaha Maverick whose length and physicality are always tough for opposing hitters to deal with. Her attacking range has been quickly progressing, too, landing Huss a spot on this stock riser feature.
Lanie Brott Lanie Brott 6'0" | OH Lincoln Pius X | 2023 State NE – 5’11 OH – VCNebraska 17 Black
Brott put together another impressive club season and has us excited about what she can accomplish this fall. Her ball control skills and hitting prowess were put on display at some of our showcase events, and Brott backed that up in live action with VCN.
Lauryn England Lauryn England 5'7" | S Malcolm | 2023 State NE – 5’7 S/DS – VCNebraska 17 Elite
England has proven throughout her club career that she can do a little bit of everything. Whether it’s running a 5-1 offense, splitting in a two-setter system, or playing as a backcourt specialist, England has always been that well-rounded player who VCN can rely on.
Lauren Buzbee Lauren Buzbee 6'0" | RS Bennington | 2023 State NE – 6’0 MB/RS – Club Legacy 18 Alpha
Playing up on an 18s team never seemed to be daunting for Buzbee. This Bennington product has ample experience as a middle blocker and an opposite. She’s the kind of frontcourt hitter that you can expect to get a clutch sideout kill in first-ball situations. I’d bet on seeing a little more of that when Buzbee competes with Bennington this fall.
Lily Snodgrass Lily Snodgrass 5'11" | MB Duchesne | 2023 State NE – 5’11 MB – Premier Nebraska 17 Black
Just another step forward for Snodgrass. The Omaha-area middle blocker always seems to have a share of the spotlight, whether it’s with Duchesne or Premier Nebraska. As we start to look ahead to high school previews, this has to be an attacker to watch in Class B.
Faith Van Eck Faith Van Eck 5'7" | DS/L Lincoln | 2023 State NE – 5’7 DS/L – VCNebraska 17 Black
We previously documented Van Eck’s commitment to the University of Sioux Falls this year, but that hasn’t stopped the Lincoln defensive specialist from climbing the 2023 ladder. She remains one of the steadiest defenders in the VCN gym and undoubtedly has skills that will translate well to the next level.
Keira Murdock Keira Murdock 5'8" | RS DC West | 2023 State NE – 5’8 S/RS – Club Legacy 17 Alpha
Murdock is another one of those multi-talented players that you’ll want to watch this fall. We already saw her make huge strides with Club Legacy this spring and show off her versatility as a setter and attacker.
Alli Mullin Alli Mullin 5'4" | DS/L Lincoln Southwest | 2023 State NE – 5’7 DS/L – VCNebraska 18 Black
VCN has not shied away from taking in some nice defensive talent. Mullin is another player on this feature who played up with the 18s in 2022, and she still managed to raise her stock with some highlight plays in the backcourt.
Avery Couch – 5’11 MB – VCNebraska 16 Elite
Couch has been a perfect fit for the quick, technical offense that VCN 16 Elite deployed this year. Her ability to get off the floor in a hurry and snap on a variety of tempos made Couch one of the highest-rising athletes in our latest rankings update.
