It’s hard to believe that the Class of 2024 is about to become upperclassmen, but it’s also fair to say that this class has plenty of players with leadership qualities. Nebraska’s 2024s should have no problem performing in the brighter spotlight that comes with being a high school junior.
So, in the wake of our latest rankings update, let’s point out a few players who ought to elevate their game this fall.
Few players in Nebraska had a more impactful 2021 high school season than Wurtz, so we have to get her in the mix here. She just got a shoutout in our commitments feature for her pledge to Creighton, but that commitment will likely provide further motivation for this DC West star. Wurtz can swing anywhere along the net and will find every way possible to get involved in the offense.
Highlights
Time to check in with Wurtz’s Nebraska Elite counterpart in the backcourt. Galligan has a huge opportunity to seize a leadership role with Elkhorn South after the Storm graduate a hefty list of impactful players. She wouldn’t get the first Galligan to lock down the Storm backcourt, so here’s a chance to keep the family tradition going.
Bruning brilliant fall 2021 campaign put Nebraska Christian on the volleyball map. That almost yielded an appearance in the state championship match, and you can bet that this VCNebraska setter will be looking for more this year.
Hanel remains one of the most impressive small-town talents in Nebraska’s 2024 class. Her dominance was on full display in front of a Lincoln audience at last year’s state championships. We saw Hanel terminate on the pin and the middle, and that versatility should shine again this year.
We’re talking a lot about players with some extra motivation heading into the fall, and you can probably add Frickenstein to that list. After coming up just short of a state title last season, Frickenstein’s left-side firepower should elevate Bergan to forefront of its class once again.
Highlights
You can count on Hausmann having another standout year in the stacked Norris backcourt. While the Titans will have a few new faces in the lineup this year, Hausmann is one of the constant’s from last year’s team that finished runner-up in Class B. This defensive specialist also helped her case this spring by putting together an impressive season with Premier 16 Gold.
An appearance at GJNC with Premier 16 Black is another testament to Bradford’s skills at the setter spot. We saw her run the offense for Lincoln East during last year’s high school season, and the Spartans should return some solid frontcourt talent, too.
