Continue ReadingThe Prep Dig JV Sizzle kicked off on Tuesday, and it felt like the turning of the page into the new year. Now we have to get used to everyone being a grade older. This tournament always gets me excited for the fall, and this year didn’t disappoint. There were hard swings, big blocks, and fun celebrations as the Sizzle started to heat up on Tuesday. Could we be seeing these players at the Resch in the next couple of years? Will tradition continue with powerhouse programs like Luxemburg-Casco, Oconomowoc, McFarland, and Appleton North? We got to see some of the younger sisters of current prep standouts start to make their mark and establish themselves on our radar for the Wisconsin volleyball prep scene. Here is a little sneak peek at what we saw.
Depth and New Faces For Sauk Prairie
The Eagles graduated studs Aida Shadewald, Olivia Paukner, and Alia Schlimgen and have a large group of contributing 2023s, so depth will be important for Sauk Prairie. After seeing their JV in action, I’d say they’ve got some talent coming up. Greta Shadewald Greta Shadewald 5'11" | S Sauk Prairie | 2025 State WI is a new lefty setter who will be fun to watch develop, and some firepower that includes Ellie Setterlund, who can swing out of the middle or on the right side with a wicked lefty whip.
Pure PM Power
There were some big matchups in the PM wave, and one happened to be a semi-final in Bracket 1 where Sauk Prairie’s Mallory Hartwig showed she’s an up-and-comer. Lindsey Witt for Freedom gave most opposing main attackers a tough time. One of the best match-ups was between Witt and Hortonville’s outside hitter, Eve Vosters. These are two explosive pins who can swing away.
Sheboygan Christian Showing Promise
If this JV squad is any indication of the future for SCS volleyball, then the future is bright. The Eagles showed us Tuesday that they have some building blocks with which to work. This particular group had a very versatile Lydia Neeb, who can set and swing from anywhere, while Maria Zylstra showed off a live arm and a solid first contact.
Well-Rounded Tritons
NDA had some really solid 6-rotation players on their JV crew. These are really sound athletes who can do just about anything from anywhere on the court. They have a strong pair of setters with Sydney Schroeder and Grace Borys Grace Borys 5'8" | S Notre Dame | 2025 State WI , who can set, play scrappy defense, and swing. Meanwhile, Paige Demoulin and Adah Danen Adah Danen 5'10" | MB Notre Dame | 2025 State WI provide depth and talent on the pins for NDA and promise they will be strong for the next few years.
