While there are still some obvious powerhouses in the mix, there should be some new teams ready to emerge with their returning firepower.
Here’s a look at eight teams we expect to be leading the way offensively to start the 2022 season. (in alphabetical order)
Detroit Country Day: The Yellowjackets graduated a lot from a very powerful 2021 offense, yet it should be able to reload. Laurece Abraham Laurece Abraham 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2023 State #111 Nation MI is a dominant and explosive middle, while sophomore Olivia Grenadier Olivia Grenadier 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2025 State #91 Nation MI is coming off a great club season and due for a breakout year at the net. Paige Elliott Paige Elliott 5'6" | S Country Day | 2023 State MI is also back at setter to help develop some new outsides.
Frankenmuth: Junior outside Audrey Geer Audrey Geer 5'10" | OH Frankenmuth | 2024 State MI is set for a breakout year as she leads the Eagles offense alongside returning hitters Lexi Boyke and Kara Hect. Sarah Hauch returns as well as a senior setter to make Frankenmuth’s offense looks like quite a challenge.
Garber: The Dukes bring back three All-Region offensive starters this year, led by senior outside Emma Dufresne Emma Dufresne 5'8" | OH Essexville-Garber | 2023 State MI . She will be complimented in the middle by senior Ashlee Lenhard Ashlee Lenhard 5'10" | MB Essexville-Garber | 2023 State MI . Senior setter Delaney Reynolds is also back to feed them the ball.
Hopkins: Led by senior setter Corrie Wisser Corrie Wisser 5'10" | S Hopkins | 2023 State MI , Hopkins could be a handful for D2 opponents. Wisser is one of the top setters in the division and she has a pair of key returning hitters in junior Kate Cleypool and senior Mady Weber.
Marysville: The Vikings have a big returning class this year, led by junior middle Janae Hudson and junior setter Avery Woodard Avery Woodard 5'7" | S Marysville | 2024 State MI . Fellow junior Rayna Powers Rayna Powers 5'8" | OH Marysville | 2024 State MI brings a lot on the outside as well.
North Branch: The Broncos are probably setting the bar for offense in Division 2. They return a lot of top hitters from last year, led by junior Alana Deshetsky Alana Deshetsky 5'8" | OH North Branch | 2024 State MI on the outside, along with senior Bailey Gormley and junior Clara Gyomory. In the middle, junior Kaela Chingwa Kaela Chingwa 6'3" | MB North Branch | 2024 State MI and senior Natasha Bickel are back. Junior setter Adrienne Greschaw Adrienne Greschaw 5'9" | S North Branch | 2024 State MI is also back, so this offense already has its timing and chemistry.
South Christian: The Sailors have a lot of key pieces returning, led by senior middle Kennedy Arp Kennedy Arp 6'0" | MB South Christian | 2023 State MI . She’s one of the top middles in all of D2. Junior Ellie Fles Ellie Fles 6'0" | MB South Christian | 2024 State MI is back as well. The 6-footer can play on the outside or middle. Senior setter Gina Boomsma is also back to run a fast offense.
St. Catherine: Playing in a talented CHSL, SCA is glad to know it will have some firepower to work with in 2022. Megan Grose Megan Grose 5'10" | S St. Catherine | 2023 State MI is a do-everything talent that led the team in kills as a junior and can set as well. Senior hitters Ava Camaj and Stella Emery Day Stella Emery Day 5'11" | RS Walled Lake Central | 2023 State MI are also back to compliment Grose at the net. Senior Hanna Brykalski is also back at setter to keep this offense running smoothly.
