A look at five 2024 Region 1 defensive players to watch follows.
Lauren Fugate is a junior setter/defensive specialist from Community Christian (Paducah) High School. Fugate is a vocal leader who can produce offensively and defensively. Able to make quick decisions on the court consistently, Fugate identifies blockers accurately.
Lilian Griggs is a junior defensive specialist/outside hitter from Christian Fellowship High School. Griggs covers the court thoroughly and is quick reacting. A player who elevates well at the net, Griggs possesses solid jumping ability and can thrive as a go-to hitter.
Gabby Hayden is a junior defensive specialist for Graves County High School. Hayden has shown the ability to make an impact from both the back row and the front row. A key contributor for her high school team as a sophomore, Hayden makes digs and delivers defensively routinely.
Kelsey Hughes is a junior setter/defensive specialist for Community Christian (Paducah) High School. Hughes possesses a diverse skill set which allows her to excel defensively and offensively. A consistent back row hitter, Hughes can produce from various parts of the court.
Laney Shehorn Laney Shehorn DS/L Carlisle County | 2024 State KY is a junior defensive specialist/libero from Carlisle County High School. A talented young defensive player, Shehorn excelled at her position during the 2021 high school volleyball season. Quick and athletic, Shehorn digs and pursues consistently.
