Prep Dig is a national website where we cover players at the high school and club level who are capable of playing at the next level. I have written for multiple states in the Midwest and now taking a look through a national lens. I’m doing a full court press of Colorado coverage for the 2022 high school season.
This article features some of the top players coming out of Colorado who have committed to playing at a D1 school after high school. There are athletes going coast to coast along with some that are staying close to home. Look for two parts with plenty of athletes that are set to play at the highest level collegiately.
The Future is Florida
Central Florida has found a gold mine in the mountains where they have three incoming Colorado athletes in Avah Armour (Manitou Springs), Annika Sokol (Heritage), and Sasha Cohen (Valor Christian). Armour and Sokol are part of Colorado Juniors where Cohen plays club volleyball at Front Range. Armour is long, athletic, and does it all from every rotation. As one of the top outsides in the state, she has a high contact point where she is terminal from both pins as well as the backrow. Sokol is flat out electric with her style of play. She can set and swing and has a major physical presence at the net and has a solid range defensively out of right back. She can hit all the tempos in front and behind her and is definitely the type of athlete who is going to have her team hyped. Cohen is from a power high school program in Valor Christian. A 6’2 middle where the name of her game is speed and athleticism, Cohen can be a tough matchup. She is springy where she can get up quick for the snap on the attack or her hands up for the block – a major mismatch for the other side of the net.
Izzy Starck – Rampart – Colorado Juniors
Committed to Penn State
Class of 2024
Starck is one of the top Class of 2024 prospects in the country. She is coming off a busy summer where she was part of the gold medal winning USA U19 National Team. She will head to Penn State, where she will reunite with her sister, Angelina, who will be a sophomore outside hitter. What Angelina brings to the court is her dynamic and athletic skill set where she can dominate as a pin attacker or setter. Her length is a major problem for opponents where she can put up a big block and she must be respected every time she jumps in the front row as a setter. She can be used in a variety of ways depending on the dynamic of the team as well as the situation.
Andi Jackson – Brighton – The Diff
Committed to Nebraska
Class of 2023
The athleticism that Jackson brings to the court is scary. Prep Dig Scout, Austin Kingsley out of Nebraska, caught the photo where her armpits are above the net while blocking at the U19 National Team in Tulsa last month. She is part of a dynamite Class of 2023 that Nebraska is bringing in that is sitting as the top recruiting class in the country. Her future is bright in the Big Ten and even on the international level where she is dangerous attacking off one foot and plays at a level above the net that few can.
Rylee Martin – Eaton – NORCO
Committed to South Dakota State
Class of 2023
Martin is a triple-double machine where she is the type of athlete who is putting up numbers that few can. She can get the kills, the assists, and defend out of the right back to keep her side of the net in system. A soon to be Senior at Eaton, Martin does it all for her high school team, but will head to South Dakota State as a setter where she commands the court. Her footwork with her ability to get to the ball is so smooth and she can put up a ball at any tempo in front or behind her. The Jackrabbits, which are part of the Summit League have picked up some major 2023 commits this past year.
Paityn Chapman – Castle View – Colorado Juniors
Committed to Tennessee
Class of 2024
Chapman was part of the Colorado Juniors 16 Sherri squad that were one of the tops in the country in the 16s age division. Chapman is a 6’2 outside hitter who is an extremely physical attacker with a heavy swing. If teams are able to get a touch on her swing, it remains very difficult for them to stay in system. As a sophomore for Castle View she averaged 4.5 kills/set, hitting .309. She will receive plenty of sets this upcoming season and will be building for another big club season with CoJrs. Tennessee is another program on the rise getting some top recruits that include Class of 2024 athlete’s Chapman and Camdyn Stucky, a top setter out of Wichita.
