There are so many different types of hitters in high school volleyball. You may have the undersized strategic mind or the huge powerhouse, but every single hitter makes an impact in a different way. Here are four studs that clearly showed their talent at WKU team camp.
Lily-Kate Carver Lily-Kate Carver 5'8" | OH Bowling Green | 2023 State KY – From Bowling Green High School, senior Lily-Kate Carver Lily-Kate Carver 5'8" | OH Bowling Green | 2023 State KY was the apparent choice to talk about but not because of her strength or power but her mind. Carver’s best game may actually be in the sand where it’s just her and a partner because she’s so smart with her placement and shot selection. If you’re on the other side of the net as Carver, you have no idea what she’s going to do next which makes her such a great hitter. Carver might hit a cut shot one play, tool the hitter’s hands the next, hit a high jumbo out of system, and then go in for a 32 and bomb a sharp cross swing. Plus, she displays leadership with her fervent emotion and passion. This year may be her last, but she’s definitely going to make it count. Carver is uncommitted and still looking for the college that’s right for her.
Aubrey Sears- A sophomore star from Logan County High School, Aubrey Sears caught some attention from every coach because of her talent at such a young age. Standing at 6’1, Sears easily reaches above most blockers in the gym which allows her to dominate at the net. When I was watching them play, I was even catching myself saying, “Set Aubrey…” Why? She is the team leader and someone the squad can count on. Sears has the power to just take over any game, and it’s amazing to watch her actually accept the challenge at just a sophomore. Everyone will want to keep their eyes on Sears because her potential is through the roof!
Addie Atcher– Another obvious selection from Central Hardin High School, Addie Atcher, senior, continues to shine as one of the best outsides in the region. I just have to share her statistics from last year because of how impressive they are… Atcher ended the season with 452 kills averaging 3.56 kills a set with 50 total blocks. The numbers just show how much she impacts the team when she’s in there for three rotations. Atcher gives it all she’s got and is a true leader when the Lady Bruins need it the most. In her final year, I bet Addie Atcher is going to put on a show!
Kara Gipson- The last hitter to cover is Kara Gipson, a 6’2 senior middle hitter from South Warren High School. Gipson recently played club for Tennessee Performance Volleyball and improved her skills so much offensively and defensively that it’s clearly apparent in her play. Now, Gipson is so much better at tracking the ball blocking wise that she gets to the hitter faster and really pushes herself to close the block every time. Plus, it’s fun to watch her swing out of the middle because of her fast arm and high elbow. This kid is really dedicated to the sport and wants to the best. It’s clear that she would make a great addition to any collegiate program. Kara is uncommitted and still looking for the college that’s right for her.
