Heavy armed six rotation pins, left handed dynamic setters and defensive dandies aplenty. This class is a special one. There were a lot of athlete’s we could have listed and I guarantee we will be talking more about these sophomore this season and years to come.
Let’s take a look on this year’s Midseason Supreme Sophomore Report!
Isabelle Busignani Isabelle Busignani 6'1" | OH Marian | 2025 State #73 Nation MI – 6’1 OH – Marian
After sporting a supporting role last season behind Miss Volleyball Ava Brizard Ava Brizard 6'0" | OH Marian | 2022 State #16 Nation MI and All State honoree Sophia Treder Sophia Treder 6'0" | OH Marian | 2022 State MI , Isabelle Busignani Isabelle Busignani 6'1" | OH Marian | 2025 State #73 Nation MI was more than ready for her time to shine at Marian in 2022. And she is shining the brightest! Busignani from the first swing of the season has cemented herself as the go-to arm for the Mustangs and currently leads the squad with over four kills per set while playing six rotations as a primary passer as well.
Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI – 6’2 S – Mercy
She’s considered one of the top setters in the country for the class of 2025. She comes into the high school season as Mercy’s starting setter. Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI has found herself atop the stat lines as not only the assists leader, but the kills leader, too?! Yes, Flynn is at the top of everyone’s scouting report for so many reasons. Her tempo and ability to find the right hitter every time is great, but her on two plays are insane. She can score with a deceptive dump, or she can crack out the south paw and bury the ball.
Navea Gauthier Navea Gauthier 6'1" | OH Shelby | 2025 State #56 Nation MI – 6’2 OH – Shelby
Someone needs to go check on this girls shoulder, because she is carrying some heavy weight on it. Navea Gauthier Navea Gauthier 6'1" | OH Shelby | 2025 State #56 Nation MI has to be one of the top attackers in the country and she may also be the quickest player to a 1000 kills in her high school career! After doing some research, I found that not only is Gauthier just a mere 14 kills away from the milestone (easy!), but she is also averaging over 8 kills per set this season!
Marie Laurio Marie Laurio 5'10" | OH Saline | 2025 State #147 Nation MI – 5’11 OH – Saline
A huge revelation this season has been the breakthrough of Marie Laurio Marie Laurio 5'10" | OH Saline | 2025 State #147 Nation MI . Laurio is coming off of an amazing season with Legacy Volleyball Club where she was huge contributor to 15 Adidas winning an AAU National Championship. She brought those winning ways into the high school season with Saline. From mostly a DS role in her freshman season, Laurio is now Saline’s leading attacker, averaging over four kills per set, just hitting under .300.
Olivia Grenadier Olivia Grenadier 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2025 State #91 Nation MI – 6’1 MB – Detroit Country Day
Another big contributor from that AAU National Championship winning team with Legacy, Olivia Grenadier Olivia Grenadier 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2025 State #91 Nation MI is similarly bringing that high level play to Detroit Country Day. As DCD loses a lot of offensive production from 2021 and have been struggling with injuries this season, Grenadier has not only stepped up offensively at the net, but she has showcased some big overall play in the back court.
Shelby Ignash Shelby Ignash 6'1" | MB Cass City | 2025 State #124 Nation MI – 6’1 MB – Cass City
Get yourself a middle that can do it all, or get yourself a Shelby Ignash Shelby Ignash 6'1" | MB Cass City | 2025 State #124 Nation MI . Continuing her hot start that she saw in 2021, Ignash is continuing to dominate on the court. A player that is well revered for her wicked slide attack, Ignash is beginning to expand her range with that signature move. Her blocking has improved immensely since last season and she continues to show high level play in the back court.
Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI – 5’8 S – Northville
Once an outside attacker for Mercy in her freshman season, now Ella Craggs Ella Craggs 5'9" | S Northville | 2025 State #127 Nation MI is in her natural position as a setter with Northville. Not only is she killing it with the Mustangs, but she is leading one of the top rated teams in the state to a potentially historic season. Craggs’ game just continues to make strides and she’s establishing herself as one of the top setters in her class.
Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI – 5’11 OH – SMCC
This SMCC squad is not going to be taking “no” for an answer this season and in turn, it looks like some of their top players have an extra pop to their game this season. One of the biggest pops I see is coming from their leading scorer, Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI . Costlow is coming off of a club season playing a majority of her time in the middle and you can really tell because she seems to have extra spring or two in her jump. Costlow has been a terror at the net, leading this top rated team in Division 3.
McKenna Payne McKenna Payne 5'7" | DS/L SMCC | 2025 State #105 Nation MI – 5’7 OH/L – SMCC
You could throw this player in just about any position on the court and she is going to deliver. While McKenna Payne McKenna Payne 5'7" | DS/L SMCC | 2025 State #105 Nation MI is primarily used as an outsider attacker during high school season, she’s one of the most elite liberos during club, which brings so much value to any squad. Not to mention this, SMCC has called upon Payne to even set a little this season, in which Payne, of course, put up some top notch balls.
