Faith Burch Faith Burch 5'10" | RS Roncalli | 2023 State IN , 5-10 RS/S, Roncalli
Sharing a 6-2 with setter Monica Jones Monica Jones 5'8" | S Roncalli | 2023 State IN , Faith is a left-handed and high-flying right side who can terminate from anywhere and run an offense at any time. She attacks high and aggressively, has the vision to have smarter shots score points, and places a well-set ball for her hitters at will. Faith is currently in the top three on her 15-6 Royal squad in four different categories (kills, attack %, assists and digs) and has no match on the roster in all-around prowess. I’m personally surprised that she’s still available—she can do everything well on a volleyball court, now it’s just finding the right fit.
Cadence Ast Cadence Ast 6'2" | MB Bloomington South | 2023 State IN , 6-2 MB, Bloomington South
For the Panthers, this is a not-so-successful season. At 6-11, it is easy to understand why they haven’t had as much attention as in years past. Cadence has been asked to do more, especially in serve receive, which is not where her strength lies. That being said, Cadence is an adept M2 for the next level that has the size and length to make attackers reconsider hitting low to the tape while also dealing with her ability to use her size and strength to overpower smaller defenders. I could also see Miss Ast as a three-rotation right side, as her blocking is above average for this class.
Caroline Hilbrich Caroline Hilbrich 5'9" | OH Floyd Central | 2023 State IN , 5-9 OH, Floyd Central
At 17-6, the Highlanders are having yet another successful regular season. Miss Hilbrich is one of, if not THE, reason for that success. Caroline is a six-rotation primary passer for her squad, and currently leads in kills per set and aces. She’s also an outstanding outdoor player, so knowing her ball control is her strength is obvious. Yes, 5-9 is not the size most are looking for, but hear me out. When I used to coach, I needed to rely on one of my outsides to be the steady, no-nonsense, mistake-free, point-scoring passer that never came out of the game. Caroline is that athlete.
Sydney Robinson Sydney Robinson 5'8" | OH Brebeuf | 2023 State IN , 5-7 OH, Brebeuf
The highest jumping athlete on this list, Sydney is the go-to attacker for the defending 3A state champion Braves, who are now playing in 4A. She has nearly double the kills of the next best attacker, and is a primary passer to boot. When everyone in the gym knows you’re getting the ball, and you still find ways to terminate, you’re doing something right. Add to it that she has Munciana training and ball control in her blood, and she’s a can’t-miss prospect for a small school near you.
Chloe Cook Chloe Cook 5'9" | OH Wapahani | 2023 State IN , 5-9 OH, Wapahani
Speaking of Munciana, Chloe is a primary-passing attacker that is part of the one-two punch the Raiders bring to the fray. At 19-4, Wapahani will be a force in the postseason, and the rest of 2A should fear their abilities. Chloe will be responsible for the state championship trophy that is theirs to lose, and will be leaned upon for both offense and defense to get there.
