Wisconsin Class of 2019: New Prospects From GLPL
With the start of the 2018 Club Season, there are always new players who are ready to burst onto the scene. A lot of improvement from one year to the next is seen and with the right combination, players college stock is starting to rise! Here are a few from the Class of 2019 that stood out recently at the Great Lakes Power League in Aurora, IL this past weekend.
Middles
Adrianne Hagen – FC Elite 17 Navy – Class of 2019 – Middle Blocker
FC Elite is loaded with Division 1 talent, but Hagen is an uncommitted middle who has an incredible upside. Springy and quick, Hagen may not be the number one option for offense due top level pins on both sides of her, but she works hard in the middle, closing the block and always posing a threat to score with a smart shot selection.
Lydia Lloyd – WVA 17 Black – Class of 2019 – Middle Blocker
Lloyd is a newcomer to national level club play, as part of WVA 17 Black. As a newcomer that only means that she will continue to get better and better. Very athletic, laterally quick, and a high swing she is definitely one to keep an eye on as she continue to play with better players against elite competition.
Sopheea Mink – Capital Adidas 17 -Class of 2019 – Middle Blocker
Captial 17 Adidas is led by Kiana Schmitt who is a 6’3 middle from Waunakee that is committed to Creighton. However there is absolutely no drop off when Schmitt goes into the backrow. Mink is 6’1 and is touching over 10 feet. Incredibly dynamic and quick, Mink is going to get noticed by schools that could be their next middle or even pin. The ceiling is very high for Mink as she continues to progress throughout the club season.
Christina Roofe – 17 Sting Gold – Class of 2019 – Middle Blocker/Outside
With a schedule that is scattered with high level tournaments across the nation for 17 Sting Gold, Roofe is going to get a lot of looks with her physicality and athleticism. With the ability to play multiple front row positions, she is a prospect on the rise.
Outsides
Bailey Neuberger – Capital Adidas 17 – Class of 2019 – Outside Hitter
Neuberger is a 5’11 pin that was a great outlet for Capital Adidas 17. Middles are always going to be the bread and butter of a team, however at high level volleyball there are going to be a lot of points that have to be scored out of system. Neuberger was a consistent force for Capital this weekend, especially in their opening five set victory she came up with some big points.
Jenna Chaussee – WVA 17 Black – Class of 2019 – Outside Hitter
Steady, solid, and the ability to put the ball away, Chaussee is a six rotation pin for WVA that came up with some big points in their match against Wisconsin Premier 18 Teal on Saturday. WVA has a solid, all around team to keep an eye throughout the season.
Setters
Chynna Bacchus – Motion 17 Blu – Class of 2019 – Outside Hitter/Setter
Bacchus is a two way player that can set or hit. Bottomline, she is incredibly athletic and is someone who makes an instant impact on the court for Motion 17 Blu who finished GLPL with two solid wins.
Grace Mans – FC Elite 17 Navy – Class of 2019 – Setter
Mans has plenty of options to distribute to on FC Elite 17 Navy, but she does it with such ease. With great hands and a smooth release, she is able to put the ball in place for one on one options. Mans is also a solid defender and at 5’11 would be a solid option in the front row.
Brianna Merkel – 17 Sting Gold – Class of 2019 – Setter/Outside
17 Sting Gold is filled with players who can play multiple positions and Merkel fits that bill with the ability to set and swing. At 5’11, Merkel has the height and power to hit, but then when needed to set she has the footwork and hands to get the ball in the best position for her attackers to score. 17 Sting Gold will be exciting to watch progress throughout the season with the variety they provide with multiple lineups.
