With a fair number of coaches responding, combined with my observations from the two days of volleyball, we now have the Prep Dig Badger Region All Tournament Team. Stay turned this week for an All Defensive Team and New Prospects list.
Top Players
Kiara Reinhardt – MB – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold – Cedarburg
Committed To Creighton
Sharp angles, hitting over the block, hitting around the block, and playing with relentless energy, Reinhardt was in a league of her own this past weekend. Creighton will have Reinhardt and 2019 middle Kiana Schmitt of Waunakee/Capital coming in the next couple years which will continue to elevate their program. Reinhardt also has the intensity, mobility, and all the leadership dispositions to go along with her incredible skill.
Aubrey Hamilton – OH – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold – Arrowhead
Committed To Notre Dame
Hamilton is a threat to score from any position on the court. I saw Hamilton play last year in the 15s, but her all around game has greatly improved from being able to serve receive, pass to attack, and being a dependable six rotation player. She also has the shot selection to go with the power. Teams are sitting back ready for a rocket, but she is also able to roll shot over the block.
All Tournament
Milla Malik – OH – Capital 16 Adidas – Waunakee
Malik definitely had some “WOW” moments of the tournament this weekend. A violent arm swing, Malik hits the ball incredibly hard and is a fundamental video of how to snap at the end of a swing. Even from the beginning of the season her game has grown to play more in the backcourt being a scoring threat from there as well. Her serve is a jump float that is dancing the whole time much like a sinker or knuckleball in baseball. Such an entertaining player to watch.
Isabelle Schauer – S – Milwaukee Sting 16 White – Watertown
Schauer just wins. She wills her team to win. A setter running a 5-1 she can defend, she can block, she can put up a clean ball in any type of situation, and she can serve her team to an early lead. Her leadership presence and body language on the court is so important for her team. This Sting White team is a totally different team than they were at the JVA Jamboree in early February, amazing how much of a difference a month makes.
Courtney Pearson – OH – Wisconsin Volleyball Academy 16 Black – Kimberly
Pearson plays incredibly high for WVA 16 Black and is a definite go to on the pin. She plays primarily on the left side, but looks just as natural when swinging on the right side. Her go to shot is cross court, but with her approach and attack angle, she can really hit a sharp angle which makes it so tough for the defense to defend and get back into transition. She was a difference maker for WVA.
Julia Treichel – OH – Motion 16 Blue – Wisconsin Lutheran
Treichel plays fast, really fast. From her approach to her defense to how she celebrates with the rest of her team. MVP had a tough match up with Sting White on Saturday with a breakdown in serve receive, but got back in their groove winning their cross over and making it to the semifinals. Their whole team is full of athletes who are incredibly quick. Treichel is their emotional leader that even when they are down, they still have a chance with her swing and backcourt defense.
Tahya Pozorski – Libero – Motion 16 Blue – Oconomowoc
Pozorski has quite the range as libero for MVP. She can cover half the court in left back, and can also take pace off a hard driven swing to make it playable for the setter. A high IQ player with a knack for anticipating the next play, she is so smooth as a libero, making many difficult plays look incredibly easy.
Sheridan Dettman – Libero – Capital 16 Adidas – Watertown
In Capital’s match against WVA, Dettman was a game changer from left back and from the service line. A 2019 prospect, Dettman can pass on a dime with serve receive and finds a way to keep a ball in play that looks to be a for sure kill on the other side. She is quietly effective and is also solid in putting up a second ball for the pins.
Nicole Pozorski – Setter/ Right Side – Milwaukee Sting Black – Mukwonago
Very dynamic, Pozorski has multiple tools to help her team whether it be with her swinging or setting. Sting Black had a tough loss in the semifinals to Sting White, but was able to regroup to snag third place. Pozorski will be looking to have a breakout season for Mukwonago who is coming off a historic state tournament run.
Elsa Copes – Outside/Middle – Adversity – Cedarburg
Adversity was able to sneak up on Wisconsin Ice to win the crossover match which resulted in a birth in the Gold Bracket where they would finish sixth overall. Copes is an athlete who can play any of the front row positions. She has the ability to score with a variety of shots with pace and positioning. Copes is also tough from the serving line.
Morgan McCormack – Middle Blocker – Sting 16 White – Kettle Moraine
McCormack was on fire at the net by being an absolute wall for Sting White this weekend, especially in their semifinal match against Sting Black. At crucial points in the match, McCormack was able to block the middle, then the outside, and even stuff blocking back row attacks. McCormack and Schauer were solid on their connections all weekend from the quick in the middle or slide off one foot.
