Continue ReadingThe Charger Rally was nothing short on talent. The gym was full of players who will find themselves nominated for all conference, some all state, and plenty with the ability to play volleyball at the next level. The gold bracket which consisted of 12 teams featured an all tournament team nominated by the coaches. To see these players listed as some of the top is definitely no surprise. Here is a breakdown of the all tournament team starting with Part 1, with Part 2 coming later in the week.
Tayler Alden – Junior – Setter – Oconomowoc
Committed To Northern Iowa
Alden is one of the top players overall in the Class of 2020 and has committed to play at the University of Northern Iowa which is always a perennial NCAA contender out of the Missouri Valley Conference. Alden disguises her sets so well its hard to read if she is going to shoot it to the pin or back set. Not to mention when she jumps she is so offensive being left handed that the defense has no idea what is coming at them. She is a gamer, seeing her take over when her team was down against Sun Prairie was a moment I will remember as she just has the body language and look on her face that won’t let her team lose if she has any say in it.
Karlie McNabb – Junior – Outside Hitter – Sun Prairie
Committed To Loyola (Chicago)
McNabb is one of the top six rotation outsides in her class with the ability to hit any shot on the outside and is so solid on serve receive and in middle back. Her form is textbook from how she swings and snaps to how she takes pace off the ball with a solid platform looking the ball right in. I haven’t even mentioned her athletic ability yet, there was a key moment against Oconomowoc where she was a few feet in from the baseline, jumped with no approach and hit a rocket across the net for a point. Just one example of her athleticism.
Erin Powers – Junior – Outside Hitter – Mukwonago
Mukwonago was a little bit on the mend this weekend, but fought their way to the gold bracket with just a scrappy effort. Powers is an outside hitter, but to watch her play backrow is nothing short of an artform. She reads well, no wasted movement, and just always has a way to get to the ball to where it needs to be. Her presence on the court is so important for her team because she is always under control. She can also score points too from any spot!
Julia Treichel – Junior – Outside Hitter – Wisconsin Lutheran
Statement made! Wisconsin Lutheran had some big wins over Mukwonago and Waukesha West and tough three set loss to Kimberly. Treichel packs a punch. At 5’7, maybe 5’8 her size on the pin may not be physically imposing, but she approaches so aggressively and swings with such force the ball is so tough to defend. The intensity she brings to the court is contagious and her whole team plays that way. Wisco is so fun to watch, I wouldn’t count them out of any match.
Alexis Boling – Sophomore – Middle Blocker – Waukesha West
Boling brings so much physicality and athleticism towards the middle. A quick jump and snap it the ball is on the floor before she lands. Waukesha West is going to be a dangerous team throughout the season with scoring threats at every position as well as libero Anna Holland, a Seton Hall commit who is always dependable on first contact. Keep tabs on Boling and the rest of the Wolverines as we head into October.
Kianna Schmitt – Senior – Middle Blocker – Waunakee
Committed to Creighton
Schmitt’s Waunakee squad is such a fun team to watch. They play with such passion, great energy, and they play for each other. I love looking for intangibles and really it’s not even looking for them because they seem to just pop out. This team has been together for a while and really click. To have someone like Schmitt who demonstrates leadership through example and body language is so valuable. Schmitt can get from pin to pin so quick to close a block and she is so tough to stop with the angles she is hitting at. When Waunakee is in system watch out!
Kiara Reinhardt – Junior – Middle Blocker – Cedarburg
Committed to Creighton
Intensity, leadership, and passion is all Kiara Reinhardt for Cedarburg who had some great matches and quality wins over the weekend. At 6’3, Reinhardt moves incredibly well and transitions so hard to every ball. She is textbook when it comes to reading the setter, getting to the pin and closing on the block. Constantly communicating and giving positive feedback to her teammates she has such a high motor. Watching her and Schmitt at Creighton will be a real treat in a couple years!
Sarah Schrader – Junior – Outside Hitter – Sussex Hamilton
Committed to UW-Milwaukee
Schrader is one of the latest to commit to UW-Milwaukee who is building quite the local roster from the Class of 2020. Schrader is just solid all around, steady, and the type of athlete who could step on any court or field and be one of the best out there. The Chargers have been so close to knocking off some top teams and for being mostly Sophomores and Juniors they may be taking a few lumps now, but that will only make them stronger as they progress into the rest of the season.
