Minnesota Match-ups: Tuesday’s Southeastern Showcase
Tuesday’s matches will have some of the best teams from the SE part of the state battling it out.
Stewartville Tiger vs. Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights
With both teams having established reputations, this is sure to be a great test of who deserves the top ranking in the 2A class. Right now, the Tigers are 9-0 so they have jumped out ahead to be ranked number one in the state. However, the Knights are currently ranked 7th and that could change if they win tonight! Again, the Tigers have opted for a young team. Solo, senior Kaitlyn Prondzinski has been a key players along with 6’2” sophomore Erin Lamb. Kenyon’s dominant player is Ally Peterson (jr.) in her fourth year on varsity. Setter, Madi Luebke (jr.) is a savy player who need to spread the ball around to catch the Tigers “on their toes.”
St Charles Saints vs. Caledonia Warriors
Both teams had great seasons last year but the Saints graduate all-star Brekkin McCready, now playing at the Rochester Community College. They have a young team eager and ready to step up to the challenge: Ashlee Paul (sophmore, setter) and Lindsey Root (sophmore, OH). They will need senior, Elie Welch (OH) to step up and lead them against the powerful Warriors; they are led by Lydia Lange (MB). They are coming off a close loss to common opponent Fillmore Central.
Rochester John Marshall Rockets vs. Rochester Mayo Spartans
This should be a good match up this year between the cross-town rivals. Both teams have strong offense and tough servers. It will come down to who can serve receive the best. Both teams have strong junior classes. Leading the Rockets will be Kaitlyn Steffes (jr.) and Maddie Helvig (jr.) who had 5 ace serves in their win against Fairbault. Mayo has usually finds themselves on the winning side of this match up and Emma Goss (jr.) should help with with her height and power at the net.
