Omaha Marian climbed its way out of a 2-0 hole against Bellevue West to win the A-3 title in five sets, sending the Crusaders to their 33rd state tournament and 18th in a row. Papillion-LaVista is also headed to its 33rd state tournament with its A-5 title.
Here is an UNOFFICIAL look at the first-round matches for the state tournament beginning next Thursday,
1:30 p.m. – (7) Millard South vs. Lincoln Pius X (2)
3:30 p.m. – (6) Papillion-LaVista vs. Omaha Marian (3)
5:30 p.m. – (8) Papillion-LaVista South vs. Millard North (1)
7:30 p.m. – (5) Gretna vs. Millard West (4)
Here is a look at each of the district championships in Class A.
A-1: Millard North def. Omaha Central 25-8, 25-6, 25-20
Paige Holdsworth had 11 kills on .421 hitting as the Mustangs rolled to the district championship with a sweep of the Eagles. Allie Kerns added eight kills and Emmy Grant had six. Eve Fountain added three aces, McKenna Ruch had 11 digs and Emma Altman had 10 while Izzy Lukens had 31 assists for the Mustangs.
For Omaha Central, Delaney Demman had three kills and seven assists and Olivia Martello had five digs.
A-2: Lincoln Pius X def. 25-11, 25-16, 25-21
Anna McLain had 10 kills and 12 digs while Delaney Hummer had nine kills and nine digs and Lauren Taubenheim had seven kills and 12 digs as the Thunderbolts swept Lincoln East.
Morgan Christianson had six kills and four blocks for Pius X while Gracie Gokie had 31 assists and 10 digs and Emma Gabel had 20 digs.
For Lincoln East, Brooke Peltz had five kills and Erin Morgan had four and Alex Lemke had 16 assists.
A-3: Omaha Marian def. Bellevue West 24-26, 22-25, 25-11, 27-25, 15-11
Hailey Zuroske had 19 kills and Emily Bressman had 18 kills and 11 digs as Omaha Marian held off a staunch upset bid from the T-birds. MC Daubendiek had 12 kills and Sophie Moes had 15 digs and three aces. Ashley Straub had two aces, 23 digs and 40 assists.
For Bellevue West, Kaia Had had 21 kills and hit .304 while Makenna Sobczyk and Kealy Kiviniemi each had 12 kills and Kiviniemi also had five blocks. Brittney Sheibal had 33 digs and Parker Lauterbach had 14 digs.
A-4: Millard West def. Lincoln Southwest 25-11, 20-25, 25-16, 25-12
Millard West got 13 kills from Gabi Nordaker and 11 from Hailey Petersen as it downed Lincoln Southwest for the A-4 title. Elise Gilroy added six kills, 13 digs and four aces for the Wildcats and Bree Green had seven kills, 33 assists and 13 digs. Jaiden Centeno had 29 digs and Ella Hazen had 19 digs.
Lincoln Southwest was led by Jaden Ferguson, who had 13 kills and 10 digs while Liz Tomlin had 11 kills and nine digs. Paige Silverberg had 29 assists and 11 digs for the Silverhawks and Mariah Zvolanek had 31 digs and Holly Ochsner had 12.
A-5: Papillion-LaVista def. Lincoln Southeast 25-23, 25-14, 25-23
Norah Sis had 24 kills and 11 digs while hitting .476 and Chloe Paschal had 17 kills and 11 digs and hit .538 to lead Papillion-LaVista to a sweep of Lincoln Southeast.
Samantha Riggs led the Monarchs with 27 digs and Brooklyn Schram had 44 assists.
For Lincoln Southeast, Brittany Wulf had 21 kills and hit .366 while Sadie Emmett had 19 digs and Kira Kahins had 15 assists.
A-6: Gretna def. Kearney 25-19, 25-11, 25-14
As a team, Gretna hit .413 on its way to a sweep of Kearney. Kamryn Schuler had 18 kills and hit .447 for the Dragons while Lydia Lost hit .667 with 15 kills and Skylar McCune hit .474 with nine kills. Jadyn Makovicka had 17 digs and Kennedy Schaecher had 12 for Gretna and Baylie Shearer had 42 assists.
For Kearney, Alexis Mishou had 18 assists and five kills for the Bearcats and Claire Vanderbeek had six kills. Aspen Rusher added eight kills and 12 digs for Kearney and Adison Wood had 23 digs.
A-7: Millard South def. Papillion-LaVista South 25-18, 25-18, 25-23
Millard South got nine kills apiece from Lauren Walenz, Paige Fixemer and Maddie Made and eight more from Claire Larson as the Patriots swept Papillion-LaVista South.
Kelsey Olson finished the night with five kills and three blocks while Fixemer added four blocks. Sam Steele had 30 digs and Walenz and Larson each had 13. Jaisee Stinson had 33 assists and 15 digs in the match.
For Papillion-LaVista South, Mara LeGrand had 14 assists, 10 digs and seven kills while Ava LeGrand had a team-high eight kills. Anna Gregerson and Jessica Hendrix each had five kills while Melanie Vallinch had 13. Ashlyn Dierks had 11 digs and 10 assists on the night.
