Continue ReadingAs Prep Dig staff continue to review the 2018 high school season while looking forward to what should be a very exciting club season, the class of 2021 player rankings are being prepared. Before I formally engage in that ranking process I thought I would offer my top athletes by position in the class of 2021 based upon all of the information I was able to gain over the course of the past few months. The focus here are the setters, in my opinion the key element to the success of any team given the decision-making and accuracy needed that immediately follow preparation, communication, and pursuit of the ball based upon what your passers are creating. Here are my top picks for the class of 2021.
#1.
Kennedi Orr

Eagan | 2021
State
MN
– 6’0 | Eagan
Orr is the standout player of this class given her versatility and high volleyball I.Q. She was previously profiled among the hitters given the role she played in helping her Eagan squad to the state championship match. The Nebraska commit has great size and athleticism as a setter and will continue to get better and better with multiple high school and club seasons ahead of her.
#2
Brooke Weichbrodt

Concordia Academy | 2021

MN
– 5’10 | Concordia Academy
Weichbrodt helpled lead the Beacons to the class AA semifinals in 2018. She can distribute the ball from anywhere on the floor with great accuracy. Out of system she puts her hitters in a good position to be aggressive and when in system she can deliver from pin-to-pin at different tempos that keeps opposing defenses off balance.
#3.
Jasmine Weidemann

Weidemann
5'9" | S
Lakeville South | 2021
State
MN
– 5’8 | Lakeville South
A great floor leader for a high school team that was full of youth and veterans alike. Helped carry her team to many great wins throughout the high school season, including a semifinal appearance at the class AAA state tournament. Good distribution from pin to pin and is athletic enough to help her team defensively at the net as well.
#4
Ryley Frye

5'10" | S
Robbinsdale Armstrong | 2021
State
MN
– 5’9 | Robbinsdale Armstrong
Frye has great movement and touch from all over the court. Her footwork, pursuit of the ball, and delivery make her naturally deceptive. She provides great leadership for her team with decision-making that diversifies their offense well. She has potential to emerge as high profile prospect over the next couple of years.
#5 Jadyn Brower – 5’8 | Stewartville
Brower has been developing into a great floor leader for the Tigers and provides a steady presence that helped keep Stewartville among the top-ranked teams in class AA all season. She has nice touch and her tempo and precision will continue to improve as she gains more experience, which will be key for helping the Tigers advance further next year given their expectations and the core of veteran arms they have returning.
#6
Karsee Kampsen

Kampsen

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa | 2021
State
MN
– 5’9 | Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa
One of the best from the west central area of Minnesota, Kampsen was a big reason for BBE’s success throughout the 2018 season. She earned over 1,000 assists for the season, pushing her over 2,000 for her young career. The Jaguars finished at 27-6 overall.
