However, there are plenty of Seniors in Iowa who have plenty to offer at the next level of volleyball. As a disclaimer, I really dislike putting a stamp on a high school athlete they are D1, D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO, etc. For some it is all about the fit and what they want for an experience. There may be some who could be a D3 All American, but maybe they want to be part of a Division 1 team that has their specific major. For others, they just want to be a part of a team, and maybe their best fit is at a smaller school. No matter what level, here are some Seniors (as far as what I know through the world of twitter and other various forms of media) are not committed and would be so good at the next level.
Sydney Midlang – Osage – Middle Blocker
At 5’10 and quick feet, great instincts, and so dynamic Sydney Midlang closed off a stellar career at Osage with multiple state tournament appearances as well as a 3A First Team All State honor. Watching Midlang live, you can see her vision of where the block is and where she needs to swing, she was deadly throughout the postseason run for the Green Devils connecting with fellow Senior setter and Grand View recruit, Rylie Olson. Midlang is an instant impact with her high volleyball IQ and athleticism.
Haley Bush – Waukee – Outside Hitter
Bush was out for part of the season with an injury, but was one of the main catalysts in getting Waukee to the Class 5A state tournament. The senior outside hitter averaged nearly 4 kills a set and had 207 digs over the course of the season. Very athletic and springy, would be a really good catch at the next level with experience playing night in and night out against high level competition.
Maddi Moorman – New Hampton – Middle Blocker
Moorman made quite the impact for New Hampton at the state tournament in their opening round state tournament match against Tipton. On the season, Moorman was second on the team in kills with 231 and hit over .300 out of the middle. A strong athlete, Moorman has the foot speed, aggressiveness, and strength to compete at the next level.
Kelsey Koch – Forest City – Right Side/DS
Koch is a four sport athlete who was recently named Top of Iowa West Player of the Year as well as All-District in Class 3A. Left handed and incredibly springy, she was also a state medalist in hurdling, Koch is a gritty competitor that would instantly improve a team with her work ethic, leadership, and ability to make the gym culture more competitive and cohesive. I’m sure she would be a great pick up on a track team at the college level as well.
Carolyn Conlon – Dubuque Wahlert – Middle Blocker
Conlon had a major impact in Wahlert’s opening round win against Independence which was ultimately the jump start to repeating as state champions. With 18 kills on 40 attempts that is a .425 hitting %. Conlon was All Tournament Team as well as 1st Team All State for Class 4A. Over the course of the season Conlon had over 300 kills, hitting .340% and had 63 total blocks.
Madi Parson – Camanche – Outside Hitter
The outside hitter for Camanche had a flurry of statistics that would turn most heads. With over 400 kills, averaging almost 5 kills per set, she was a force to be reckon with in Eastern Iowa. Camanche was ranked in the top ten most of the season and was the Regional runner-up to New Hampton. Parson definitely has the arm not only in volleyball, but in softball as well where she could be a college dual sports start.
