Meet the top three recruits out of the Class of 2020: Tayler Alden, Kiara Reinhardt, and Aubrey Hamilton. How do you decide where they fall?
In doing rankings for Prep Dig, picking the top players and ranking them is like splitting hairs, especially in the case for 2020. Three different positions who all contribute in different ways. Fortunately there is no signing bonus, endorsements, or any other values put on this because they are all interchangeable and all worthy of being number one.
The case for Tayler Alden (Oconomowoc/VC United/Committed to Northern Iowa) to be top in 2020:
Tayler Alden of Oconomowoc playing for VC United. She touches the ball every play. She is the one the defense has to key on every single time. The amount of stress a 5’11, left handed setter who can violently attack is a major gamechanger. The Northern Iowa recruit has the all around game that takes years to develop. If she played softball she’d be the hitter who can hit it to all sides of the field, hit for power, or lay down a drag bunt and get on base. If she played basketball, she’d be the player that can get to the hoop and score, dish, or hurt you from the outside. However in volleyball she is the triple threat who can play defense at the net and the backrow, attack on the second contact, and dish to her hitters. Seeing her absolutely take over the game in the state semifinals against River Falls was a stat line for the ages with 15 kills, 2 errors on 25 attacks while dishing out 33 assists while her middle she works extremely close with Elle Shult had 17 kills, zero errors on 25 attempts. This all coming back from being down 0-2.
The case for Kiara Reinhardt (Cedarburg/Milwaukee Sting/Committed to Creighton) to be top in 2020:
Reinhardt is just infectious to her teammates with how she plays with her energy, enthusiasm, and positive body language. She has a high motor and so much athleticism. Combine that with being 6’3 and extremely dynamic and she is a matchup nightmare. Milwaukee Sting will be a legitimate threat to compete for a national title this upcoming club season and with Reinhardt in the middle, she controls the game. Not only is she a physical defender at the net, she is smart, she anticipates, and works hard to always make herself available in transition. She will continue the Wisconsin pipeline to Creighton and will be quite the duo with the 2019 top recruit in Wisconsin Kiana Schmitt.
The case for Aubrey Hamilton (Arrowhead/Milwaukee Sting/Committed To Notre Dame) to be top in 2020:
Hamilton is a point scoring machine from anywhere on the court. A 6’2 outside hitter that is just a force on the pin will be a great fit to play in the ACC for Notre Dame who is on the rise. This past season for Arrowhead she was named 1st Team All State with over 600 kills on the season, leading her team to state. Last spring she suffered from an unfortunate broken hand and was forced to sit out part of the summer which included the national tournament. Hamilton will be teaming up with Reinhardt and the rest of the 17 Gold from Milwaukee Sting to make a run this spring and summer. Arrowhead will be back for more in the Fall of 2019 for Hamilton’s senior year after falling in the quarterfinals to conference rival Waukesha West. With continued improvement of her all around game with an already powerful offensive arsenal, Hamilton will primed and ready to finish off her decorated career.
