Continue ReadingI’ve seen Michigan teams play when I was closely watching a lot of Wisconsin teams when I primarily wrote for Prep Dig Wisconsin. Whether it was NJC, Northern Lights Qualifier, JVA Jamboree, or the Great Lakes Power League, the clubs from Michigan were always strong, one of the top contenders, and had a grit where they would always compete. This past weekend, covering all the Prep Dig states I was able to get some quality court time with FaR Out, Michigan Elite, and Legacy. Again all having a lot of grit, athleticism, and well trained. Take a look at some of players that really made an impact from Michigan at the Triple Crown Invite in Kansas City.
Kimani Johnson – Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno – Middle/Right Side
The ceiling is incredibly high for Johnson, just like her touch on the block. In pool play action on Saturday she was quite the presence at the net defensively with some thunderous blocks. When she is able to get set and take a solid jump she is tough to hit around. Not only is she getting plenty of touches, but is making the offense adjust their swing to get a free ball on the side of Mi Elite.

Ava Brizard – Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno – Outside Hitter
Brizard plays with fire and intensity, and is not afraid to take a big swing on the left side. A six rotation outside who is a big point scorer, she is a threat out of middle back as well. On the pin she celebrates with a lot of energy and flat out competes. She is a great example of good things happen when you take an aggressive swing.
Lydia Harper – FaR Out 16 Black – Class of 2021 – Setter/Right Side
Committed To Miami (OH)
I remember seeing Harper as a 15s player last year at GLPL and NJC was was instantly impressed. At 6’1, Harper can set and swing, playing with such athleticism and physicality. In the front row she swings on the right side, which I would love to see what she’s like as a setter in the front row. I can imagine her second contact is lethal when she can attack on two. Defensively she is solid all around being a physical blocker and solid in right back. She will be heading to Miami (OH) which has found a lot of solid recruits from Michigan.
Abby Boyle – FaR Out 16 Black – Class of 2021 – Libero
Boyle is legit. She has a lot of range in left back, but is extremely under control with efficient movement. Her platform is really solid in serve receive and is able to control the tempo from the start for FaR Out. With a solid first contact they can use the power of the O’Gorman sisters who will be heading to Michigan State. This team is fun to watch and is always a threat with a lot of height and athleticism. Will be a dangerous 16s team this season to keep tabs on.

Ellie Tisko – Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno – Class of 2021 – Middle/Right Side
Tisko is really dynamic being able to attack from the middle or right side, and I didn’t see it this past weekend, but could probably score points on the left side pin. When Mi Elite was coming out of serve receive she was so dangerous off one foot. A quick jump and snap really showing off her athleticism.
Julia Bishop – Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno – Class of 2021 – Setter
One of the better setters I saw over the weekend when it comes to fundamentally sound, skilled, and just running the show. She isn’t the six foot plus, long attacking setter, but is definitely a solid division one prospect with what she can do with her feet as far as getting to the ball and her hands ready, as well as a really solid defender at the net and in the backrow. This team is very athletic and dynamic where they are able to run a variety of tempos with Bishop. She is on point with her middles no matter where she is and where they are on the court. Looking forward to watching her play again, very fun to watch!
Legacy 17 Elite
Wow, this team and their athleticism. Watching Michigan recruit, Kendall Murray take an approach and swing is pretty special. She flat out flies. Libero Kennedy Dolmage is some great range is so scrappy, she will be playing for Oakland in the Horizon League. This past weekend Skyline out of Texas was the kryptonite for the 17 Elite team who had two losses, both to Skyline, with one coming to them in the elite eight which led to a fifth place finish overall.
So much fire power from this @LegacyLvc team – fun to watch. Crazy close match with Skyline. pic.twitter.com/6xjMIdOBD5

Legacy 18 Elite
The best team in the nation right now with players who are ready to step into the Big Ten. With five athletes heading into the Big Ten and five who are touching ten feet or higher on their approach, they make you just say, “Wow”! In the middle is Taylor Venuto, a Loyola (Chicago) commit along with Jessica Robinson who will be heading to Michigan and is touching 10’4. Their outlet on the pin is Paige Briggs who is heading to Western Kentucky and flat out electrifying from six rotations. Oh and their setter, Celia Cullen is so physical at the net and extremely dynamic, she will be heading to Michigan State.
