Class of 2022 Hitters Who Brought the Heat at the JVA MKE Jamboree
We all love to see a great volleyball player pound a ball into an opponents court, and that happened quite a bit at the JVA MKE Jamboree this weekend. There was such a vast amount of talent in that gym. Every time I turned around I saw an athlete who impressed me, many of which I had not seen play before.
Let’s dive right in!
Maleah Howe (Outside Hitter, Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold)
Maleah is a truly amazing athlete. She is fast, explosive, and powerful. Additionally, she has the ability to see the court and place the ball where she wants it. She was an instrumental player on Oconomowoc’s high school varsity team this year who took 2nd in the Division I State tournament. Her consistency and ability to deliver is a great asset to her team.
Brianna Cantrell (Outside Hitter, FC Elite 15 Navy)
Brianna is a 6 rotation outside hitter for FC Elite, who won the 15 open division of the tournament this weekend. She has a great vertical with a high reach and a fast arm swing. She makes tough shots look easy and has a line shot that is extremely hard to defend. Additionally, she is a fierce defender with an extremely powerful serve.
Riley Hamilton (Outside Hitter, Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold)
Riley is a scrappy player. She excels in the back row but has a powerful swing as well. Riley has strong yet controlled cut shots. She is fast and gets a touch on every ball. Additionally, she is great a covering her teammates and delivering in pressure situations. She is a fun athlete to watch and definitely puts pressure on her opponents on both offense and defense.
Grace Holschuh (Middle, One Wisconsin 15-1)
Grace is an all-around athlete. She has a great vertical and a nice, fast arm swing. She has a great presence on the court and is extremely fast. Grace is definitely a player to keep on your radar as she continues to develop and grow into the game of volleyball.
Amalia Moore (Outside Hitter, I AM VBC)
Something that made Amalia stand out to me was her ability to track the ball. She has an extremely well-timed approach and tracks the ball well as she is swinging. Amalia is also a strong defender.
Isabella Van Lannen (Right Side, FC Elite 15 Navy)
I love seeing teams that utilize their right sides, especially at a 15’s age level. Isabella has great control and sees the court really well. She has a nice line and corner shot. Her ability to place the ball is extremely valuable and very fun to watch.
Riley Dahlquist (Middle, Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold)
Riley has a lot of speed. She transitions quickly and is ready to make a play on nearly every ball that comes over the net. She excels at swinging to the left and is hard to read. Her speed also makes her a great blocker as she is quick to read and react to block pin hitters.
Brooke Porter (Pin Hitter, Milwaukee Sting 15 Black)
Brooke is a strong all-around player. She is controlled on serve receive and explosive on offense. She is great at tooling the block and has a powerful cross-shot. Whenever she is on the court she makes a positive impact on the court.
Grace Martens (Outside Hitter, 414 – 15 Elite)
Grace can put a powerful swing over the net from anywhere on the court. She was especially dangerous in scramble plays as she adjusts to off sets extremely well. Grace’s ability to swing controlled yet powerful in any situation and from anywhere on the court is a great asset to her team.
Each one of these athletes makes a positive impact on her team. They were all fun to watch and have great potential to grow as athletes throughout the club season.
