Q) To who or what would you contribute your volleyball success?
A) “My sister, mom, and Lauren Hansen have all had major contributions to my success in volleyball. I was a competitive gymnast when I was younger and my sister had started playing volleyball. She always tried to get me to play with her and I never wanted to. But when I had to quit gymnastics because of injuries her and her friends always needed a pepper partner so she finally talked me into playing volleyball and when I first started out, I was the youngest player on a 12U team at the age of 10. I’ve been in love with the game ever since.
“My mom because I would not be the person or player that I am today. She is one of the main reasons that I am where I am today and I couldn’t be more thankful.
“Lauren Hansen because she believed in my abilities as a player and never gave up on me. She has pushed me so hard physically during our setting sessions and mentally too, I most definitely wouldn’t be the player I am today without her.”
Q) How do you like to spend your free time outside of volleyball?
A) “Outside of volleyball I love playing golf. My dad is a huge golf fan and he’s very good as well. He persuaded me to go out my freshman year of high school. I love playing golf because it’s something that my dad and I can bond over and now he can share the love of the game with me.”
Q) What is your favorite club tournament or city?
A) “My favorite tournament is the Windy City tournament in Chicago. The competition is always extremely competitive and I love the city so getting to spend time in the city shopping and hanging out with my team is always really fun but my team is going to the Triple Crown tournament for the first time so I am very excited to play in one of the top tournaments in the nation.”
Q) What is your favorite thing about club season?
A) “My favorite thing about club season is really everything about it but this year is especially my favorite because I’m playing with a lot of players I’ve played with throughout the years, as well as on my High Performance team, and now we are all finally playing together on the same team and they are all so talented and I really enjoy playing with some of my best friends.”
Q) What is the best life lesson volleyball has taught you?
A) “My biggest life lesson I’ve learned from volleyball could really be a lot of things. Volleyball has taught me many valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork and determination. It’s taught me that it’s not about one or two players on the court, it’s about the whole team because every player has their own role and without that the team wouldn’t be complete.
“In volleyball and life you can’t dwell on mistakes, you have to learn from them and move on to the next play or next part in life. It’s taught me about leadership on and off the court and always being positive no matter what’s happing on the court or in life.”
