Continue ReadingIowa per capita is one of the top states when it comes to Division 1 volleyball players per population. No, that is not a made up statistic. The number of top players to come out of Iowa is no joke and that will continue to hold true with this Class of 2022 coming in. Here are some of the up and coming players who are making their splash and will be sure to have breakout Sophomore seasons in the fall.
Hayden Kubik – CIS 15M – West Des Moines Valley – Outside Hitter
Kubik is one of the top recruits in the country as an outside hitter. The Kubik family has been through this routine before when Hayden’s older sister Madi committed to Nebraska early in her high school career. This upcoming Fall, with Madi playing for Nebraska, Valley will rely heavily on an extremely talented Senior class and Kubik on the pin. Kubik could be one to make a verbal commit before college coaches go quiet come May 1 where with pending rule changes there is no communication in regards to recruiting to be had between a coach and a potential student athlete until after their Sophomore year.
Lauren Carter – CIS 15M – Winterset – Setter
Committed To Denver
Carter and Kubik have a nice ring to it as these two have been a solid combination for CIS all season. Athletic, smooth, and just a playmaker, Carter is a gamechanger with her ability to stay neutral and distribute to her multiple offensive weapons on her side of the net. A high IQ athlete, Carter will be fun to see compete for her high school and club team the next few years before she heads to Denver, one of the top programs in the Summit League that has made a habit out of finishing their season in the NCAA Tournament.
Macy Daufeldt – Iowa Rockets 15R – West Liberty – Outside Hitter
Daufeldt is just electric all around. She is quite the leaper and athlete who could be making an impact on the blue oval at Drake this spring. Deadly in all six rotations, Daufeldt can score points, play defense and make something out of nothing. Iowa Rockets 15R is a really athletic team all around and is looking to make a push for a USAV Open bid.
Kora Ruff – Iowa Rockets 15R – Pleasant Valley – Setter
Ruff is a student of the game where she can adapt to so many different situations and has a savviness to her game that keeps everyone cool, calm, and collected. A natural setter, Ruff can read her passers platform extremely well, allowing her to be in a good position to get her hands on the second contact to the likes of Daufeldt, Ella McGlaughlin, or Calia Clubb. Ruff can also swing from the right side as well, again, a solid all around player of all facets of the game.
Faith DeRonde – CIS 16M – Oskaloosa – Outside Hitter
DeRonde brings a ton of athleticism to the court with a really heavy swing for the defense to defense. A big arm with some top spin, DeRonde is a point scorer and has excelled at an age group above with a bunch of 2021 athletes who finished second at the Iowa Regionals. Her strength really sets her apart from the rest.
Morgan Brandt – Six Pack 15-1 – Sumner-Fredericksburg – Setter
Another Brandt in the lineup for Sumner-Fred, this time it’s Morgan, the 6’0 setter from the Class of 2022. Morgan’s older sister Jenna, just finished her Freshman year at Iowa State and made multiple appearances at the state tournament. Morgan earned all conference honors in the loaded NICL-East with the likes of Dike-New Hartford, Columbus, Union, and Hudson.
