They didn’t leave empty handed as Rockwood Thunder 15 Elite took home the 15 Open and Invasion Club 15-Blue out of the Kansas City area won the American Division, qualifying for USAV Nationals.
Major Thunder From Rockwood
15 Elite was able to clinch a bid in Indy at MEQ, but over the course of the weekend, this squad went 8-0 on their way to the title. Some of those wins included Northern Lights out of the Minneapolis area, Coast out of San Diego, and Central Iowa Select who finished 3rd at Triple Crown. Vanessa Polk and Madilyn Sell were able to control the front line from the middle. With solid ball control led by libero Ally Williams, 15 Elite was able to run their middles with a variety of tempos and also control the net defensively. On the pin was Madison Scheer and Kenzie Murphy were major point scorers with Scheer hitting over the block or blasting the split, while Murphy is a six rotation solid outside hitter who can attack from the backrow as well.
Championship Revenge To Capture The Title
Invasion surged out to a big day one going undefeated and then had a minor set back, with a three set loss to Iowa Rockets 15 Black. However the rest of the path towards the title was golden. With wins against local rivals MAVS 15-2 and then Rockwood Thunder 15 White it set up a match up with Iowa Rockets 15 Black yet again with the winner qualifying for the American Division at USA Nationals which will be held in Indianapolis this summer. In the championship it was all Invasion winning in two sets by the scores of 25-11, 25-15.
Remington Covinsky, who is actually from the Class of 2023 was a big arm from the outside and provided plenty of firepower and spark throughout the weekend. Jalyn Walruff was another force for Invasion who was one that could score from any front row position, a high IQ player that can score points in bunches. Lydia Huston was another key factor setting to well balanced offense – great hands.
