After Baumert visited the school, the feeling became mutual and earlier this month the VCNebraska product made it official by committing to the Red Raiders.
“They contacted me a few months ago about attending a camp,” Baumert said of Texas Tech. “I was able to attend the camp and was able to watch the team play in a preseason tournament. From being on campus, working with the coach, and watching the team and coaches interact with each other I knew it was where I wanted to be.”
Baumert made an immediate impact at Malcolm in her very first season, totaling 657 assists, 101 kills, 135 digs, 33 blocks and 51 aces in her freshman season this past fall. But, she really started turning heads about a year ago when she started attending camps between her eighth grade and freshman year.
“The recruiting process started my 8th grade year i had a several colleges reach out to me and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a few camps last summer. this year I have had several more colleges contact me and was able to attend a few day camps throughout the spring,” Baumert said. “Through those experiences I feel I got a good grasp on what I wanted in a college. I feel that Tech was the perfect package for me. It offers the kind of volleyball program I was looking for and also was in line with what I want for academically.
“I have always wanted to play D1 ever since I was little. As a setter I want to bring leadership, passion and the drive to win.”
Baumert also said being committed this early is something of a relief for her as she can now enjoy the rest of her high school career without that decision looming.
“A little of relief but in the same sense I feel some urgency to take my game to the next level and step into my new role as a Red Raider,” she said. “I just want to thank everyone who has contributed their time and effort into my volleyball career.”
