Coaches can put the right players in the right position, but if a team cannot serve receive – well, it’s a going to be a long match. Serve receive and a case of the “shanks” also seems to be sometimes a bit contagious. A libero is always expected to be the best passer, some teams will have their libero cover half the court in serve receive, but ultimately an outside hitter is going to have to serve receive at some point. Who are some of the top pins who are also rock solid in serve receive?
Sarah Schrader – Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold (WI)- Class of 2020 (Title Picture)
Committed to UW-Milwaukee
Schrader has always been a rock solid six rotation for Milwaukee Sting, an L2 at its finest. Quick laterally, super athletic, and can anticipate extremely well – Schrader is always one of the primary passers for Sting who recently clinched a 17 Open bid to nationals. Following high school, Schrader will be heading to UW-Milwaukee who has been gathering some local talent including Schrader’s club teammate Kaley Blake.
Kira Fallert – Northern Lights 16 Gold (MN) – Class of 2021
Kira FallertFallert is so steady and brings a really solid platform to the backrow, making her very reliable in serve receive. A six rotation outside for Northern Lights and her high school team of Concordia Academy, Fallert transitions well from serve receive into attacking which is not always easy. Most teams will serve the outside hitter to push them off the court, but for Fallert she is under control and able to get the right angles to get an on point pass and a swing to score.
Ava Brizard – Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno – Class of 2022
Brizard has become one of the top go to pin hitters in her class in the state of Michigan. A six rotation pin, Brizard wants the ball in big moments. Not just with her swing, but she can pass as well to get herself and her team in system to score. Brizard is tough to stop come crunch time.
Mackenzie Murphy – Rockwood Thunder 15 Elite (MO) – Class of 2022
There is very little weakness of this Rockwood Thunder 15 Elite team who double qualified for USA 15 Open, punching their ticket at MEQ and taking the title at Northern Lights. Murphy is able to swing with the best of them, but also put a pass in play that Rockwood is able to run their 6-2 offense always having three hitters who can terminate at any time.
McNabb playing in the Wisconsin State Tournament.Karlie McNabb – Capital 17 Adidas (WI) – Class of 2020
Committed to Loyola-Chicago
Capital Volleyball Academy out of Madison, Wisconsin does a great job of training six rotation outsides who have all the tools from passing to being able to hit a variety of shots. I’ve been using the phrase that McNabb is the best middle back defender in the state of Wisconsin with how she can take pace off a ball, serve receive on point, and always be a scoring threat. She will be such a great addition to the pipeline of Wisconsin athletes heading to Loyola in Chicago.
