Continue ReadingMinnesota clubs have been flexing their power all week and more than ever in the 17 Club Division where three Minnesota teams were in the final Championship bracket and SWMNVB 17-1 who was runner up in the consolation bracket. That’s four teams in the top 13. But who were the star players behind this run in the championship bracket who really came out to make a huge impact for their team.
Mackenzie Close – Northern Lights 17 Black
Close was dominant on Monday with her performance on the right side and her ability to hit multiple tempos from different spots in the front row. She was really connecting with setter, Charlotte Nelson for some kills that really ignited the momentum for Northern Lights as they were able to put out the flame of momentum from Crossfire enroute to the national championship match.
Charlotte Nelson – Northern Lights 17 Black
Nelson just runs the show. Northern Lights has a 6-2 setter system where they can utilize so many hitters, but when Nelson is she has a savvy about her where she just knows how to get it done. Quick feet and great hands, as well as knowing who is open can do wonders to make the hitters look really good, thats what Nelson does.
Mikala Henderson – Crossfire 17-1
Henderson was electric out on the pin. She plays with a lot of intensity and energy and it was very contagious today as Crossfire knocked off Kandi Elite and then swept previously unbeaten MVP out of Sioux City to advance to the semifinals. Henderson knows how to use the block and she can really cut a hard crosscourt shot. Her celebrations get her team fired up and definitely pushed the momentum in favor of Crossfire.
Ellie Danielson – Kandi Elite 17-1
Danielson was finding a ton of blue (the sport court as blue) where she was hitting sharp angles finding spots around and over the block, and giving Kandi Elite a much needed boost. Danielson, who is also one of the state’s top high jumpers just has a natural athleticism about her. She is deadly with her hangtime where she can see all the open spots on the court.
Mackenzie McDonald – Crossfire 17-1
As a libero McDonald was in control of the pace of the game. She would sprint back to the service line and just go from there, not necessarily aces, but getting the opposing team out of system which led to free balls and big kills for Crossfire. A definite spark that has a presence on the court which is exactly what a libero needs to do.
Catherine Moore – Northern Lights 17 Black
Lights looked like an absolute machine where there was no stopping. With available hitters and crisp passing they were on a roll all day and will be playing in the national title game tonight. Moore is one who can come out of the middle and thump it on the ten foot line. She provides a solid block and her athleticism allows her to do some extraordinary things. The solid passing of this squad leads to so many insystem points, its incredible.
