For a few Iowans, this past month has been full of making the verbal commitment on where they will be playing volleyball after high school. Take a look at the past couple weeks and how a few 2020 athletes are no longer on the list available to college programs.
Abby Brunssen – Iowa Rockets – Benton Community
Committed to Northwest Missouri State
The Northwest Missouri State volleyball program is definitely on the rise with some really solid commits the past couple of years. Brunssen, the uber athletic outside hitter from Benton will be a major pick up for the Bearcats in Maryville, MO. She will be part of a class that also includes Kyah Luhring, a top libero from Grundy Center and CIA who will also run track and Olivia Dir out of Union Grove, WI who is one of the top ball control outsides in the state.
Kaitlyn Morgan – Iowa Select – Pleasant Valley
Committed to Western Illinois
Morgan is a 6’1 right side with a high contact point and heavy swing. She really started to rise on the charts with her year playing with 17 Mizuno at Iowa Select out of the Quad Cities. Morgan can also play six rotations and is really dynamic with what she can do, providing plenty of dimensions for whatever team she is on. Before heading to WIU, Morgan and her teammates at Pleasant Valley will be looking to make some noise come late October into November with plenty of returning talent this upcoming season.
Helaina Hillyard – Iowa Rockets – Mediapolis
Committed to Western Illinois
Western Illinois is doing some rebuilding and that is going to get done with some really solid athletes out of Iowa in Morgan and Hillyard. Hillyard brings such an athletic style to the court where she can block from pin to pin and run a slide and hammer with the best of them. Hillyard is also a standout basketball player and a state qualifier in track. Her versatility and athleticism will be such a welcome addition at WIU.
Kate Nelson – Central Iowa Select – Waukee
Committed to South Dakota State
Nelson had a breakout high school and club season this year and is only getting better and better. The outside hitter from Waukee jumps like a deer and has turned into a very terminal point scorer. She will be joining a team with some other top talent from Iowa with Madison Fay (Iowa City West), Akeela Jefferson (Xavier), Abby Fryauf (West Branch), and Sydney Andrews (Jesup).
