Some will play college volleyball, others will focus solely on academics. For the athletes listed below, they are some players that have had big time club seasons and will also be some top athletes to watch this fall on the high school courts. Don’t sleep on these athletes who will be big time impact players.
Yaiza Franco – MN Select – North St. Paul
Franco has a high reach and is able to terminate at the net offensively and defensively. The MN Select 17-2 squad was one of the top teams in the Premier Division at AAU’s this past summer and had a strong NLQ as well. Franco would be a big time pick up at the next level where she would be a big presence in the middle, but could also contribute on the right side. A lot of upside!
Alex Lyle – Kokoro – Tartan
Lyle has a lot of versatility where she can play six rotations, hit from either pin, and if in a pinch can set too. A solid all around player who was on a Kokoro team that made it to the championship bracket of 17 Open. She is on the radar, just a matter of what direction she’ll go, but definitely the type of player who is a swiss army knife.
Mia Schiable – SWMNVB – Marshall
Definitely gamechanger. Schiable can shut down an outside hitter with the best of them. She will definitely be one the NSIC schools would love to have on their roster and schools out of the Summit League could probably be after as well. Scrappy, gritty, and knows how to win. A spark that every team needs.
Logan Sherman – SWMNVB – Marshall
Another swiss army knife player to have in the gym. Sherman is solid as a setter and right side where she was a key player for SWMNVB and Marshall High School in their state runner up finish last season. She will be a key player for Marshall in their quest to get back where they will most likely be in Class AAA when Minnesota moves to a four class system for volleyball.
Mackenzie Close – Northern Lights – Southwest Christian
Close had a monster national tournament at AAUs and will be one to keep tabs on this summer through the camp season. Her versatility may be the best spot to her game where she can swing from any front row position while also being able to put up a block and big an effective defensive presence.
Lauren Link – Northern Lights – Academy of Holy Angels
Link has all the tools of being an effective six rotation outside hitter. A standout for Holy Angels where she can handle a large number of swings, Link is a flat out point scorer. She has all the shots, the court vision, and the savviness and IQ to find ways to score points.
Skyler Germann – Kokoro – Minnetonka
Germann was named to the 18s All Star team at AAU Nationals for Kokoro. Another solid all around player to add to the list where she can score points from the outside. Germann is also a big time beach player which translates to the indoor court with her creativity in making shots that translate to points.
Emma Martinson – Vital Volleyball – Eden Prairie
Martinson ran the show for Vital Volleyball this past winter and will do so for Eden Prairie this fall. Great feet, and smooth movement across the court allows her to really get her hands on the ball to get her hitters in position to terminate.
Anna Wachholz – High Voltage – Mayer Lutheran
Wachholz will be heading into her Senior year as part of a talented class who will be looking to end their year on top after getting beat in the first round. Wachholz will be joined by Olivia Tjernagel, Claudia Stahlke, and her younger sister Lilly as a front line of six footers. Anna provides a solid block and another scoring outlet for the Crusaders.
Charlotte Nelson – Northern Lights – Farmington
Nelson plays with such a spark, which is what is needed out of a setter. Earning All-Star honors at AAU Nationals for Northern Lights 17 Black, Nelson’s quickness and grit is what sets her apart from the rest. An exciting player who can light up the court, she is a great pick up at the next level as a setter who can really push both sides of the court.
Katherine Wong – M1 – Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]
Wong was a key part of the Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”] state runner up team that fell just short in the state title game to Champlin Park. An all around, six rotation player who can play on either pin, she will be a key returner for Eagain to claim the top spot. A solid swing, a variety of shots, and finding a way to score points is the name of her game.
Megan Panser – Synergy – Champlin Park
Panser was a defensive specialist on an incredibly deep Champlin Park team last year, but with the depth also comes competition day in and day out. Panser will be one of the top defenders on the CP team that still has some top players returning including Jordan Stalpes, Sami Hilley, and Hannah Prasky along with a talented incoming Sophomore class. Panser is really efficient with her platform and will keep the offense in system.
